I agree with a lot of what @mijustin mentioned here too.
I co-host the WPMRR WordPress podcast. It's pretty niche but we've had some mild success growing an audience. Here's what I do (although I'm sure there's more I could be doing)...
Note: I realized #1 and #2 above only work because we have an existing audience and drive solid traffic. Underlines the importance of starting to build that now so when you do or launch new stuff, you have folks you can tell directly!
For sharing your episode you might want to try using a tool like https://podshare.io to generate landing pages that link to the largest podcasting platforms. Full disclosure, I run PodShare :)
