Everyone wants an email lists with bounce handling, open/click tracking, ideally some follow-up automation and it should not be too expensive.
Since I am not a fan of fix costs I've especially looked at:
- moonmail (the open source version feels abandoned or low priority at best)
- mailtrain (v1 or v2b? also feels rather neglected)
- sendy (pay once, but not a fan of hosting php)
- mautic (has an open source version, but not a fan of hosting php)
- mailgun (requires a self-written backend for subscription handling)
Any other suggestions? What do you use and why?
I use ConvertKit because...
Not saying that should be the case for everyone, but it's my approach :)
I just signed up for a free trial yesterday. I'm really liking it so far.
I am also more looking at infrequent mails with value - but that's also why I find the fix costs of most of the hosted solutions unfortunate. Thanks for your POV!
I know this is pretty early as the software is just starting to be developed, but I couldn't find anything that fit me either, so I decided to start writing my own, and open source it completely free. https://github.com/aniftyco/audience
Indeed a little early - but interesting. I like the simplistic approach. But you also want bounce handling and click tracking? What's your plan for the sending? SES? Mail services via API or SMTP relay/self delivery?
Yeah so what Audience is, is the software to manage everything. The actual sending will be delegated to a provider that can be configured when you install the app. For example Mailgun.
I use Mailchimp! It's completely free if you still have under 2,000 subscribers
Mailchimp for auto emails and such, Typeforms for everything
mailerlite, mailchimp, sender, sendgrid are soome options you might want to look into
Do you use any of these yourself? The pricing options of sender.net looks really interesting. Love the prepaid option. Thanks for the pointers.
currently using mailchimp on https://applibslist.xyz , i also like sender.net and will switch to it soon

With multiple campaigns per month I can see how a monthly fee would work - but for now I'd rather avoid the fix cost. I want to be frugal and rather pay for what I use instead. So a pre-paid, one-time purchase or even writing a software layer for mailgun are options. The free limits of e.g. mailchimp is not really something I want to rely on.
