Why do users abandon your surveys halfway through? (And what we built to fix it)

Hey IH community πŸ‘‹

I've been thinking a lot about why collecting user feedback sucks for everyone involved.

The problem: We send out surveys, get 8% completion rates, and the responses we DO get are mostly "Good product" or "Needs improvement" β€” completely useless for making real decisions.

Users hate filling them out. We hate analyzing them. Everyone loses.

What we're building: Sinthax (www.sinthax.com) β€” basically, conversational AI that talks to your users instead of forcing them through rigid forms.

Here's how it works:

  • You write a simple prompt about what you want to learn

  • AI generates an adaptive conversation that feels natural

  • Users respond in their own words, AI asks smart follow-ups

  • You get organized, actionable insights instead of checkbox data

Early results: We're seeing 3-4x higher completion rates compared to traditional surveys, and the quality of insights is night and day different.

Why this matters for indie hackers: Most of us are building solo or with tiny teams. We can't afford to waste time on feedback that doesn't move the needle. We need to understand our users deeply, quickly, and without hiring a research team.

Would love to hear from others β€” how are you currently gathering user feedback? What's working (or not working) for you?
