I made a game in the style of Wordle. A different game but the same one-puzzle-per-day format. I'm interested in feedback on the game and also on the business model. https://www.indiehackers.com/product/wordhuddle
Nice idea :-)
My score was "7 above par" which is apparently a good thing? I'm used to seeing "par" in the context of golf, where "under par" is desirable and "over par" is bad.
Also, since letter choices are one-tap, it's very easy to sabotage yourself by fat-fingering the wrong letter. This is a problem that e.g. Wordle doesn't have.
Finally, the row with the score + emoji + solve button gives the UI a disorganized look. I'd make the Solve button larger, move it down closer to the rest of the inputs, and make the score box look less like a button.
Thanks for the feedback:
Yes, a few other people have had that confusion about "par", and I thought twice about using that word because of golf. However, regular language does have "above par" (good) and subpar (bad). I just couldn't think of another word that carried the same meaning. "Average" and "Goal" didn't seem good. Getting "below par" has more of a sting than "not quite meeting your goal", and when you are "below average you feel pretty bad" and you wonder, how does the game know what's average anyway? Is it comparing my score to other people in real time? (which it's not)
If you hold down a letter key you get a preview of what key you're on, and if you are on the wrong key you can drag off of it. I can try to make that more obvious, but you're right that, short of that, you can guess the wrong letter by mistake. I originally had a confirmation button after each letter choice, but that seemed too cumbersome. What do you think?
I agree with your UI suggestions. If the Solve button came down to the keyboard, then all of the clickable things would be down below. And you're right that there's no reason for the score to be in a rounded rectangle that looks like a button.
Agreed that a confirmation button after each letter is a bit of a chore. Maybe the simplest solution is just to give up the QWERTY layout (on mobiles at least) and make the keys bigger.
Heresy! :)
