Let's all forget about Marketing and Focus on Sales for a Second!
Hey, my name is Tiago and I am the founder of the WBE Space
After a great month in March, April was not being a good month for me businesswise. It's been really hard to get new members and I was feeling really down...
I still do not understand what happened since I did not change any of my marketing efforts (some of you here might have seen my comment ;) )
This weekend I met a friend which is the CEO of a successful e-commerce company and asked him for advice...
He told me that I should stop doing marketing and start selling!!
What is the difference?
Marketing: Systems that bring users to your product
Sales: Systems that bring your product to the users (you have more control over it)
There is a big stigma against sales but one thing my friend told me changed my mind:
Don't think you're selling... You're adding value to them
A sale happens when the value of your product meets what the buyer is looking for!
Here is what he told me to do
1- Ask your current members to recommend people that they believe would be a good fit for the WBE Space.
2- Reach out to the recommendations with a message that includes:
a) The name of the person that recommended
b) The value of the product
c) A personalized bit
d) A call for action
Here is the template he sent me:
Hey {Name},
Tiago, Founder at Wannabe Entrepreneur.
X person recommended I get in touch because he/she thought you would benefit from our community.
The purpose of the community is___ and helping each other on our journey.
Would you be open to a quick 5 min chat this week?
Thanks
P.S. I was taking a look at your site and noticed that___ {insert the tip here}

I have to admit that setting up these calls is a bit out of my comfort zone but doing so allowed me to meet Ebba
One of the reasons Arrigo joined was because Luca recommended him
And I think that mentioning Khoa's company (PastePal help) helped too
It might have been luck but just yesterday we got 5 new members!! 🎉
We are all building great products and have been focusing so far on doing marketing but maybe it is a good idea to start doing some sales too!
I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Are you also selling your product?
What about automated DMs on twitter? Are they sales or marketing? If done well, they can seem personal and very effective (I have been fooled - naively thinking that the automated DMs were personal messages :) )
Everyone that's joined is really amazing too - they're going to be such a great addition to the community
