August 6, 2020 Redesigned website to reflect ideal customers

Over the past few months, we've been reflecting on everything: business model, ideal customers, pricing, website, operations, etc.

One of our biggest struggles over the past few months was trying to nail down our ideal customers. Who are they, how can we help them, what are their biggest pain points, where do they hang out, etc.?

What we've come to realize is that our ideal customers are typically solopreneurs or <2 person businesses that are focused on SaaS and/or technology industries. They also typically aren't looking for VC funding, but rather stable, recurring cash flows. Additionally, from our customer base, we found this group to be the easiest to work with (we love SaaS and tech ourselves!).

Given this realization, we decided to redesign our website to reflect our ideal customers and brand. You can visit here to see the new designs: www.meeta4e.com. Any feedback is appreciated!

We're excited to continue this journey, continue working with SaaS and indie makers, and making life easier for everyone. 🙂

June 1, 2020 Developed critical workflows and processes

For the past few months, we've been hard at work figuring out what we wanted for this business.

Is it a lifestyle business? Do we want to grow and scale this to millions? What do we want? What do we value?

Those questions made us realize one one thing: we value our time above all else (we're new parents 👨‍🍼).

What this means is we can't do all the work ourselves anymore. Immediately, we started documenting all of our workflows, mapping out where we can delegate and outsource, etc. This exercise has brought such a relief for us, and it's allowed us to spend more time with our family.

We've also been leveraging key tools like Loom and Clickup to document our processes more easily so that any new team member can jump right in.

Although we're far from finished, we're excited to see our business continue growing and that it doesn't rely 100% on us. In the meantime, we'll still be involved in sales; accounting services is a personalized experience, so we want to assure our customers we're there for them.

Our goal has always been and remains to be a personalized, trusted service that puts our customers first above all else.

Thanks for reading! 👍

March 17, 2020 Developed an internal customer profitability index

For the past couple of weeks, I've been hard at work at determining if our customers today are in fact our ideal customers. By ideal I mean if what we deliver is not only valuable, but also profitable.

So we went back to the drawing board, analyzed all of our customers, tracked their associated time to complete their projects and came up with a customer profitability index. What we realized is we had some great customers that were profitable and some that are valuable but that we need to adjust pricing to reflect our true value.

Although we won't adjust any prices for now, I'm glad we have a process in place to detect our profitability and ideal customers. This has been invaluable to us.

Interestingly, we offer these similar kinds of analyses as a service to our customers called "Growth Finance" services. I'm excited to see this service line grow as it directly aligns us with our customers' best interest -- growing their business.

March 6, 2020 Landed 2 more customers for our accounting package

For the past couple of months, we've been refining our business model, our offerings and our pricing.

It's been a long journey because it was mostly me in the beginning. But with my husband now involved full time in the business, we've organized our duties to split sales, marketing and service delivery.

This allows me more time to spend on our sales and marketing outreach, which we're now seeing traction.

Because of all these (hard) steps we've taken to optimize the business, we were able to land 2 more customers choosing our accounting package with another handful in the pipeline.

I'm really excited to see that the business is growing and slowly seeing myself from being in the business to focusing on the business.

Cheers! 🙌

February 20, 2020 Made our first hire! (Long overdue...)

It's been such a long journey, having to overcome the "expert" dilemma in us, but we finally hired our first hire for our company.

Prior to our hire, we were doing everything. Like many founders, this was taking a toll on us and frankly, we were getting tired and demotivated.

So we asked ourselves, "We can't keep doing this. We need to hire out so that we can focus ON the business, not be IN the business."

We made our first hire (two, in fact), and it has been working out great!

One of them has been such a treat to work well--she's a mother and was looking for remote work. So we were excited to be able to help her, and she's done amazing work.

Overall, we're so glad to have made this big step. Despite every book and founder telling you to hire, it's always a scary step to take.

You wonder, "Do I have enough money? Can I train them well? I've never been a manager, what if they don't like me and quit?"

In the end, we trusted our gut and stuck to our principles of "pay them well, treat them well and make them want to be part of our journey".

Slowly, but surely, we're growing and we're happy to see progress going in the right direction.

June 1, 2018 We launched Accountrepreneur!

After working for one of the big 4 accounting firms and realizing my passion was in startups and small businesses, I took the leap to launch my own accounting business!

Although it's a bit frightening as a solo founder, I'm finding the journey to be worth it. And I can't wait to help other founders!
