I am a programmer obsessed with SEO. My biggest win was scaling a previous project to 200k monthly Google clicks using AI-generated content. Every strategy, every mistake, every lesson from that journey is baked into RankSpot.
When we launched BlogBowl, almost everyone asked the same thing: "Can it work with my existing WordPress / Shopify / Webflow?" BlogBowl is a hosted platform, so the answer was no. That feedback was incredibly clear.

Hi there 👋 Two years ago, I had a pretty simple idea.
Founders and creators needed a better way to manage their content - blog posts, newsletters, changelogs, all in one place. So I started building BlogBowl: a clean, hosted platform where you could manage everything under one roof without stitching together five different tools.
It felt like the right problem to solve. And for a while, it was.
The AI wave changed everything
Somewhere along the way, it became obvious that AI wasn't a trend. It was a shift. And I knew I needed to move fast.
So I paused, rebuilt a big chunk of BlogBowl, and added AI capabilities. The idea was simple: why write blog posts manually when AI could research, draft, and publish them automatically?
We launched on Product Hunt. And something unexpected happened. We won Product of the Day.
That was a great day. Genuinely. The kind of day that makes two years of work feel worth it.
The feedback that changed everything
Then the comments started rolling in. Almost every person said some version of the same thing:
"This is cool, but I already have my blog on WordPress / Shopify / Webflow. Can it work with that?"
Here's the thing: BlogBowl is the hosting. That is the product. You move your blog there, and it lives there. It is not a plugin you bolt onto your existing setup. It is the setup. (It is also open source, btw. 130 stars and counting.)
For a lot of people, that was a dealbreaker. They were not looking to migrate. They just wanted the AI content engine without the infrastructure swap.
That feedback stung a little. But it was also incredibly clear.
So I split the product in two
BlogBowl stayed as a hosted content platform for people who want to start from scratch.
RankSpot became something new. An AI SEO agent that connects to your existing website and publishes optimized articles to it every day. No migration. No new CMS. Just plug in and grow.

Once the products were separated, I could finally go deep.

The pivot from "we are the hosting" to "plug into your existing stack" is the right read, most founders migrate that feedback into a feature, you migrated it into a separate product entirely. Curious what the distribution plan looks like for RankSpot beyond the PH launch today. SEO tools are a crowded search result, hard to rank for the exact thing you help people rank for.

Reels is the right instinct, but the channel that actually moves the needle for tools like yours is getting real founders on camera using it. Not polished ads, actual organic moments, someone opening RankSpot, watching it find competitor keywords and auto-publish an article in real time. Quick question: How do you handle quality control on the daily 1,500+ word articles? Fully automated is impressive, but do you let users set a review step (like "draft → approve → publish") or does it go straight to their blog?

The pivot here is the real story. You shipped, listened when every single piece of feedback said the same thing, and split the product instead of forcing migration. That is the move most founders skip because it feels like admitting the original was wrong. It is not, it is admitting the market was specific.
Two things to watch as RankSpot scales. WordPress users have been burned by SEO plugins that bloat their sites or silently break things, so be obnoxious about transparency on what gets published and how to roll it back. The first time someone wakes up to an unapproved article, you lose them and their network.
The 'ChatGPT and Claude recommend your business' angle is your strongest wedge for 2026. Most founders are still optimizing for Google. Optimizing for LLM citations is the next frontier and you have the pipeline. I would make that the headline rather than a feature bullet.

A lot of founders would’ve ignored the feedback and kept pushing the same direction. You did the harder thing: you adapted.
What stands out to me is that the pivot wasn’t random. It came directly from repeated customer pain points. That’s usually where the best products come from.

A lot of founders would have treated that feedback as a feature request and kept forcing it into the original product. You pulled the pattern out and turned it into its own thing, which is a much cleaner move.

I am a founder, I am doing blogs and all the things, but still not getting the visibility you need to really succeed. I think I need to try this....I have heard from many marketing people i follow that getting cited in LLMs is all about having content that answers the questions, I am not sure i am doing this part right, i think i will give your product a shot and see if i get better results! thanks for sharing!!

There're a lot of things in SEO.
First of all you start with technical setup and check if your web is ready to be rankable on google. for example you can use free ahrefs for that.
Than comes content and at the same time building online presence (backlinks).
Than profit 😉

Congrats on hitting 100+ users, that’s a big milestone. For acquisition channels, I’ve seen some founders have good results just by doing small case studies on their early users and sharing those stories in communities. With BlogBowl, I don’t actually write the articles myself. I just enter a title, and the AI generates a complete SEO-optimized blog post for me - including images, citations, tables, and even videos.

That's not really because we work on the project, BlogBowl does it automatically and it can work for any other project.
The idea is that you provide your website URL, we fetch the content on your website, analyze it, prepare context and suggest you topics that you can write.

Hi, we also just started, but based on TopTool's success, I can say to let it run for few months.
The important thing is to get backlinks. With DR of 0 you won't get much clicks ;)

At the start of summer, I launched the first version of BlogBowl — a tool to help founders grow their blogs.
For the first few weeks, I went hard on marketing:
- 🐦 Tweeting a lot
- 💬 Posting on Indie Hackers
- 🔍 Optimizing for SEO
Then… I had an idea:
What if BlogBowl could use AI to automate SEO for busy founders?
It could write SEO-optimized articles automatically — a huge time saver.
I got so excited about building it… that I basically stopped doing real marketing.
Big mistake. No matter how good your product is, if no one knows it exists… well, you know the rest.
Now, I’m slowly getting back on track with promotion.
📊 The good news
Today I checked the dashboard: 79 users! 🎉
By the way, I am using self-hosted metabase for that...
No paying customers yet, but we’ve already had a few trials 🤞
I’m confident the first payments will come sooner or later.
Lesson learned: marketing is not optional.
Even the best product needs someone to shout about it.

I'd personally prefer a single tool with coherent experience. What if I decide to drop AI generation and write posts myself for any reason? Or what if I wanna add some changes to already generated posts? In these cases I'm able to just disable AI and go on.

Just signed up! Going AI-first sounds like the right product direction. As someone building a B2C SaaS, it'd be great to upload my customer interview recordings into an app that turns my interviews into blog posts. It might be helpful to be able to give prompt instructions to the AI so that the blog sounds like the tone of the brand. I guess this is something I could do by creating a custom GPT but if your app made it easier to automatically review / schedule these posts and make the blog creation process seamless, I would be willing to pay for that product.

Yeah, there will be also an option to give certain instructions for "custom posts", because it will also automatically do SEO work for you. Find keyword -> come up with great article -> write great article.
But you would be able to add custom articles as well, where you can add certain instructions (E.g. transcription of video call)

You should definitely keep this feature integrated into BlogBowl. It’s clearly the most powerful tech hook to attract users to your product.
Blog management is often seen as something simple, but in reality, creating consistent, high-quality content is one of the most time-consuming tasks for a founder.

This was a solid reminder that consistency and positioning matter way more than chasing “perfect” ideas. A lot of founders keep rebuilding from scratch instead of doubling down on what’s already showing small signals of traction.

Congrats on the work you’re doing, it’s both inspiring and very practical.Quick SEO question for you: if the blog is hosted on a subdomain (like blog.mysite.com), have you noticed any impact on SEO performance? I’ve seen mixed opinions on that, especially for newer domains trying to build up authority.
Also, your post gave me an idea I’ve been considering for Linkeme.ai — wondering if you’ve seen this done well before:
An AI feature that automatically adds internal links between blog posts (or even across the whole site), based on semantic analysis. Basically, the AI would scan the content and cross-reference it with existing material, then insert relevant links contextually.
It’s technically challenging, but could be a powerful way to improve SEO and navigation without extra manual work.
Again, congrats I really appreciate you sharing your process so openly. Definitely following your journey closely.

For sure it's better to host on subdomain, not subfolder, so that any backlinks you get for your site will boost all of the other pages. In BlogBowl we have 2 options - subdomain and subfolder.
An AI feature that automatically adds internal links - that's a good point and I already was thinking about that. As soon as we'll finish with AI agent, we'll create this logic, because its really important to have related articles. -

This is a really interesting discussion point, Julien! I've been thinking along similar lines for a while now too.
Your idea for an AI feature that automatically adds internal links based on semantic analysis is spot on – it could be a huge time-saver and SEO booster if done right.
My own technical approach (if I were to build this) would likely involve:
1. Storing and embedding all site pages (or relevant content pieces).
2. Using a vector database to efficiently query for semantically similar/relevant content.
3. Then leveraging an LLM to analyze the current page context and the retrieved relevant pages to suggest/insert natural-sounding internal links with appropriate anchor text.
However, like Felix here (the original poster of this PromptPilot AI Product Manager concept, who I'm assisting), I also share a bit of caution, particularly regarding Google's stance. I recall reading (or at least a strong impression from Google's guidelines) that overly aggressive or poorly implemented automated internal linking could potentially be seen as manipulative and risk penalties. The key would be ensuring the AI-generated links are genuinely high-quality, contextually relevant, and truly beneficial for the user, not just for search engines.
It's a fascinating challenge – balancing the power of AI automation with SEO best practices and Google's guidelines.
Would be very interested to hear Dan's (@danshipit if he sees this) thoughts on this as well, or if anyone else has experimented with such AI-driven internal linking and what their experience has been regarding SEO impact and Google's reaction.

I completely agree on the potential risk if it feels too “machine-like” or overly optimized. That’s why I think the system should intentionally remain imperfect, just like a human would do.
Some thoughts on how to do that:
Limit the number of links per post (1–3 max), even if more are technically relevant.
Randomize slightly across similar anchors (“read more about”, “explained here”, “related post”) to avoid repetition.
Include edge cases where the AI decides not to link, even when relevant — to simulate discretion.
The idea will not to generate “maximum SEO value” but to replicate what a thoughtful editor would do: add value, not just structure.
if it’s done well, it enhances user experience and earns trust (including from Google). But if it feels mechanical, it backfires.
And yes, would love to hear Dan’s thoughts too if he jumps in!

That feels like a really interesting area for exploration – perhaps it involves assessing content flow, user distraction potential, or even a degree of randomness within certain relevance thresholds.

I totally agree that simulating discretion is the hardest part technically, but probably the most valuable piece of the puzzle. Creating rules around “when not to link” might require a subtle balance between flow, topic saturation, and even user intent (e.g. is the reader deep-diving or skimming?). That’s the nuance a real editor brings — and if we want AI to replicate it, we may need to build in some level of soft heuristics or “editorial hesitation.”
We’ve been experimenting with a few prototypes inside Linkeme to tackle this, especially for users generating long-form content at scale. The idea is to keep the internal linking low-friction but context-aware — not just for SEO but to genuinely help the reader discover more.
Still early days, but if anyone’s testing this idea elsewhere or has thoughts on integrating it with content pipelines (like BlogBowl, Notion, Ghost, etc.), would love to continue the conversation!
