December 12, 2020 API Release 0.1.10 + Video

One of our users requested this feature a while ago. He's developing a chrome extension mainly using boardme through the developer API.

The problem he was facing is that he didn't want the built-in features of the guide, he would rather take full control over it.

We released the setBehavior method for this purpose.

The 0.1.10 release also contains the boardme.onLoad method, which can be used to know when boardme finished loading all the data and is ready to accept API calls.

December 8, 2020 Live Preview Launched in Beta + Video

We've been working on releasing the Live Preview, which basically lets you preview your onboarding flows live on your website without publishing your flow - so the onboarding is only visible to you.

This feature was suggested by one of our users and we're really happy about seeing it come to life.

I've put together a short video that shows how the feature works.

November 19, 2020 boardme NPM package available

I've been working on the NPM package for the past few days. It's something that pops up regularly when discussing with technical users.

The package has built-in type support as well, so no separate package needed for TypeScript support.

The project inspired me to focus more on the developer experience even though boardme is a "no code" product, having a strong API could be a differentiator.

The package can be found here.

November 18, 2020 28K Onboarding Flows Displayed in Production

28,634 boardme flows displayed in production.

The goal is to get to 100,000 by the end of the year.

More than half of the current number (14,439) is recorded from a single customer, while almost 70 customers contributed to the total value.

September 8, 2020 An Experiment in Usage-Based Pricing

Pricing a SaaS product is surprisingly tricky.

I've spent a lot of time researching pricing models, creating pricing tiers, and calculating margins. When it comes to boardme it somehow always feels off. I couldn't quite get it to feel right.

So, I had to ask myself what is the pricing model that I like the most? What comes naturally to me?

Once I formed that question, the answer was obvious: I like to pay for what I'm using. And, I don't like paying if I'm not using up the resources I've paid for.

That's how boardme's new pricing model was born.

I've started an experiment in usage-based pricing. I'll get back with data on how this decision influenced adoption and user behavior.

Cheers

    Interesting experiment.

First thing that comes to mind is that this might become a problem for businesses who need to get expenses explicitly signed off. At $0.012 per user, I have no idea what I'll be charged next month – as my users vary.

Businesses generally like some certainty for the purposes of forecasting and cash flow. So one to bear in mind!

Thanks for the heads up! I think it does level out after a certain time so forecasting could be based on that, or if they would like something set in stone there could be a case made for the enterprise tier which offers a dedicated environment and a separate license.

      Let's see though! :)

July 29, 2020 80 Onboarding Flows Displayed

We opened boardme alpha access yesterday for the early-subscriber list.

Months before releasing, we agreed that our main KPI is going to be the number of user onboarding flows displayed.

There are many users who sign up.

There are some who play around with the editor GUI.

And there are only a special few who take the next step and install it to see it live in their website or application.

We're really happy to see that number grow!

June 12, 2020 UX and User Onboarding Community

I stole this feature from my wife's website, which seemed to have had success gathering 633 members in 2 months.

I think this will be a good addition to boardme as well, and it will allow early access users to be reporting issues they're facing or requesting features directly through Slack.

November 7, 2019 GIF support and live edits

Ildiko implemented some UI components last week and everything was looking so so soo sweet! The only thing bothering me was that updating our guides through input fields seemed a bit off.

It made sense for the MVP, and I was VERY militant about keeping it simple for the first release, shooting down features left and right, but as soon as I saw the editor coming together I couldn't resist anymore. These guides needed live editing!

I started fiddling with the idea of clicking on the guides and editing them basically in the preview real-time.

boardme never fails to deliver on technical problems to solve, and in this case it was the image management during LIVE edits.

It is one thing to embed images into data models during live editing when you are not particularly interested about the size of your data models. But our guides need to be lean and mean. We cannot increase the guide size with the embedded image size.

So, one thing leads to another, I just finished live editing yesterday, and also implemented support for drag and dropping images and gifs straight onto the guide, which feels amazing to use!

We're talking about releasing a video demo this weekend or early next week, so stay tuned!

September 5, 2019 boardme powered by emoji-express 🚂

Yesterday I was toying with this idea that came to me about adding emoji support for URLs in a website.

I wrote an npm package called emoji-express 🚂 and I integrated it into our app. The package is under MIT license if you want yo use it, feel free to do so.

Examples:

/contact routes

/pricing routes
