October 18, 2019 3,333 unique users on our website

Hi there,

Today I opened our Google Analytics and noticed that we had 3,333 unique users on our website from the very beginning.

Considering our product is not launched yet this number looks good.

Regarding our channels - 35% of users came from direct, 35% from referral, 14% from social channel.

Plan to work hard on content and SEO in the next month.

Hey @maxshash Love the website design! It's so dope especially the header, features and integrations section. It is too good that I had to submit it to Lapa Ninja.

  2. 1

Where is the referral traffic coming from?

    1. 1

Many different websites, such as IndieHackers, DZone, dev.ro, producthunt, etc.

  3. 1

    Hi @maxshash,

Congratulations, its really good if you are receiving all these unique hits. More important thing, are and how, are you able to convert these unique visitors to subscribers or get them engage or retained in some form?

Really curious to know about that. :)

    1. 1

      Hello Naman,

We received 100+ prelaunch subscribers. But it's hard to measure true users now, before the product is launched.
We will know only after we launch it.
I will make another milestone here as soon as we are there.

October 11, 2019 Our first article was published on GitConnected

Hey guys and girls,

Yesterday our first article was published on GitConnected.
Feel free to enjoy it here
https://levelup.gitconnected.com/deployment-automation-best-practices-when-should-you-start-to-automate-28b682cdd4e2

According to Medium stats for less than 24 hours we received 473 total views with 45% read ratio.
Considering 7 minutes time to read I think 45% is a good result.
I posted 5 articles on medium by now and this is the second highest read ratio.

I have one more articles submitted earlier than this one to a different Medium community, but it got lost somewhere. I should ping the editor to find out what's wrong.

The curious point is that we didn't get much traffic or leads from this article. Next time I will submit it from DeployPlace's official account. We'll see how it will work then.

Have you ever posted to Medium communities? Please share your results in comments.

Wish you a productive day,

October 9, 2019 38 keywords are in Google Search already

I'd like to follow our progress in content marketing with some SEO stats.
Today I checked our Google webmaster's panel and saw that we have 38 keywords in Google's index.

The good news is almost all those keywords are relevant. We mostly cover deployment automation and automated deployments topics.

The bad news is our average position is 65. I like this number much more than 120, but either way it means we are not getting much traffic from Google.

Since we updated website and posted 2 articles on the blog, this is a good result. As I wrote earlier we have some more guest posts and blog articles coming.

SEO takes time and our plan is quite simple - just do the work.

Congrats Max! As you said, SEO takes a lot of time and you start to see your efforts compound over the long run. As you build up content and referring domains, Google will often recrawl articles and they can move their way up the rankings!

      Thanks, Steph!

October 8, 2019 Got 391 pageviews on our blog for 2 days!

Hey folks,

Today I opened Google Analytics and saw 391 pageviews on our blog.
Those pageviews were generated by 112 unique visitors.
We launched our blog 2 days ago and have only 2 articles there.

Of course, it has some part of our internal traffic. Despite that I expected less pageviews considering SEO takes long and we don't even have a working product with loyal users.

How is your blog performing?
How do you distribute your blogposts?

Have a productive day,

October 5, 2019 A new website published!

Finally, we published our production version of the website. We will use that design for our product by adding blocks like pricing, reviews, etc.

At the moment we focus on SEO and link building, still looking for additional 2-3 content writers for our blog https://deployplace.com/blog/

We will be happy to hear your feedback about the new look of the website: https://deployplace.com

    Looks cool! Congrats!

How is your first article performing? Thinking about writing the first article for my product as well.

    Thanks in advance!

    1. 1

      Hi Roman,

      Thanks for your feedback.

For 3 days our blog has 112 unique visitors and 391 pageviews.

It's tricky to measure the performance of each article.

      Our goals for article:

      1. Create content to get SEO traffic to our website.
      2. Distribute article on our social media and other platforms in order to show it to our target audience and get brand awareness.

For 1 it is too early to measure result. SEO takes time.
For 2 it is also too early. We should grow our social media and then distribute it everywhere.

      Best,

  2. 1

How much content per week are you trying to push?

    1. 1

Depends on type of content. We discussed around 1-3 articles for blog per week.
We also create other content for guest posts, etc.

October 4, 2019 Finished SEO competitor research

Hey folks,

The next thing in our marketing is SEO.
Few days ago we found SEO freelancer to take care of our SEO.
Today we just finished a discussion and our SEO battlefield is the following:

  1. We are competing with 3-5 famous companies that are well-known on the market. They have high DR and UR and get mostly branded traffic.
  2. They don't have many SEO optimized articles, they mostly get traffic to their guides and how-to pages.
  3. They have many backlinks, but many of them are from low DR websites. As an example: small developers' blogs and similar.
  4. Most of our keywords are low-volume ones. According to ahrefs, many keywords have volume 100-300 and KD 5-20.
  5. As we see almost all of our competitors are well-known on the market to receive brand traffic and maybe acquire customers from outbound channels.

How would you build our SEO strategy if you are in our shoes?

P.S. Our competitors are Octopus Deploy, Buddy.works, etc.

If you're looking to receive competitor research reports on your competitor's features, pricing and receive a positioning chart each month check out www.competitorzoom.com! Here's a 25% discount code for life, 25off. We're offering this to our first 20 customers.

  2. 1

I'm curious to hear your experience with hiring an SEO freelancer. Was it worth the cost? Where did you find him/her?

    1. 1

      We found him on Upwork.
As I see it now, we have some opportunities in SEO.
We have a limited amount of low frequency keywords mostly with low Keyword Difficulty level.

SEO takes time. And we won't know the ROI for a few month at least.

  3. 1

    I'd say 2 main things:

    • Content - with lots of 'How to...' articles and FAQ type content.
    • Backlinks - as you've established from the competitor research, focus on the high DR sites.

A good way to combine these two are through Eventbrite - so create content, turn it into webinars or workshops, then promote them through Eventbrite and Meetup.

You can also hire good but reasonably priced SEO freelancers to support!

    1. 1

      Hi Emma,

      Thanks for sharing.
This is what we exactly plan to do.

Can you share how we can promote a webinar via Eventbrite or Meetup?
I'm not sure if we can find there our target audience (developer, devops engineers, indie makers).
      Thanks!

      1. 1

Sure! So the great thing with setting up events or webinars on either of these platforms is you really just have to submit the details and that's it!

As long as you're punchy and engaging with the copy and any imagery you use, and you tag them under the right categories, then the platforms do the hard work of listing your event so people can see it.

That said, I'd always advise to do extra promotional work through your own social media and email channels too. And of course on sites like Indie Hackers as well.

In terms of the target audience, Meetup definitely has a good pool of indie makers. And Eventbrite always tops the search rankings so again, all you have to do is list!

One final avenue you could explore is through partner newsletters - I know there's plenty on here that run indie newsletters so reaching out to those folks to discuss promoting your event would help.

        1. 1

          Hi Emma,

Thank you very much for the idea.
          I really like it.

I will give it a try after our product is ready.

          Thank you one more time!

          1. 1

            No problem! Good luck! :)

  4. 1

It's not rocket science to be honest. Just write content that's valuable, and most importantly RELEVANT.

If you start typing keywords on Google search, it will start auto suggesting with phrases/questions people are actually typing.

    1. 1

      Thanks Ruben!

  5. 1

Keep in mind that 80% of google searches are unique so the monthly volume is far from being perfect.

An example of a typical research:" what should I do if I want to be more productive at work?" Nobody optimize for those keywords so google will send them to an article optimized around the keyword work productivity and this query will never figure in the volume. Again, 80% of researches are like that.

I would go after easy to rank keywords most of the time and once in a while harder keywords that will help you in the long term.

For example, one long term hard to rank article for every 3 or 4 easy to rank.

Then at the end of the page (the "You may also like section") I would always show the hard to rank article. Why? More visits your page gets and more google realize it is worth ranking for it. Clearly, you should also do manual promotion on relevant communities.

    1. 1

      Thank you Luqa!

October 3, 2019 Found 4 more content writers

Hey guys,

As you may have read yesterday we had a successful article on DZone and decided to scale our content marketing.

I looked for more writers and found 4 more writers.
Yesterday I sent our test assignment to them. I hope to receive their articles in the next few days and select 2 writers out of those 4.

Can you please share how do you generate content ideas? Any framework or article you can advise?

October 2, 2019 12 prelaunch leads in a day!

Hey Guys,

Yesterday, I wrote that we got published on DZone.

But then... we got featured on the DZone's main page !!!

Our article was read by 12,000+ users by now. We got got 101 referral users.

And we got 12 prelaunch leads yesterday (10 from DZone and 2 from organics).

This was the highest number of the leads we got ever. 💥

You won't believe me, but yesterday we had a chat with @Nazar488 and I said I expected to get 10 prelaunch leads from DZone.

Now we know we should boost our content marketing for sure...

That's what I'm going to work on today and the next few days.

Have a productive day,
Max

October 1, 2019 DeployPlace is on DZone!

Our article about DeployPlace was published on DZone.

3-4 weeks ago we did a brainstorm on what article to write to bring value to developers and also promote DeployPlace.
We even decided to go an extra mile and help a couple of other projects similar to DeployPlace.

We decided to find the most interesting upcoming tools for developers and create a listicle.
Me and @Nazar488 hand picked 15-20 projects and then studied them even more to choose 3-4 the most interesting ones.

Here is what we chose:

https://www.indiehackers.com/product/querypie by @chequercrew

https://www.indiehackers.com/product/automated-api by @jpusateri

and one more project called ExBrain, but they are not on the IH yet.

Then our writer wrote and article.

And after many efforts it's on DZone now.

For one day we got 27 referral clicks from DZone, which resulted in 2 pre-launch subscribers.

I understand that articles is not perfect for lead generation, but the traffic is still coming and I'm sure there are more leads to come.

I believe @chequercrew and @jpusateri also got some leads. And I'll be happy to know their results.

Yesterday the article got featured on the main page.
We got the record number of leads yesterday.

I saw a bunch of new traffic yesterday as well. Several new leads to follow up with when I return from this trip.
