🐱‍🏍Motivation ist back!

October and September were shitty months. My Play Store - Rating dropped from 4,5 Stars to 3,8 Stars because of spammers. Even worse as mentioned in my post here: https://www.indiehackers.com/post/my-play-store-rating-dropped-from-4-5-to-4-0-stars-how-to-handle-irrational-app-reviews-ef240621e9

The Play Store rating is so important for apps that it can mean the end for a successful app. It annoyed me a lot because there was no reason for the sudden number of bad ratings. Probably competitors wanted to annoy me.

But fortunately the spam wave has stopped and I was able to increase my rating to 4.1 stars again 🥳

This also motivated me to continue working on my idea. I also learned that you should not give up your big vision by minor setbacks.

I am currently tackling these things:

  • I test new screenshots in an A/B test to increase the number of my downloads

  • I run several A/B tests within the app to increase the retention rate. I try to increase the usability of the app. I've noticed that users quickly uninstall the app because they don't find or understand its features.

  • I am testing new prices for the Premium Version in Tier 2 and Tier 3 countries like Russia and Brazil. In these countries I have a lot of downloads but nobody buys the premium version. This is probably because the previous prices are too expensive because they are calculated on the basis of Germany.

  • Improvement of the food database with more choice, better search and the possibility to create more portion sizes.

  • Many bug fixes

Hey @OPunktSchmidt interested to know if you tried anything to help regain your motivation back? For founders going through ups and down is challenging , to climb back up and get the motivation isn't easy. Would love to hear how you managed to bring it up again.

My wife uses a MI fitness tracker which approximately tells the calories burnt to put it into perspective compares it with food so it would say "today you have burnt 2 portion fries worth of calories" . I find that interesting.

Sorry for my late answer. Actually, I did nothing special in my case. The problem for me was simply the bad rating of my app. The bad reviews were completely unfounded and that pulled me down. As soon as the rating got better I was more motivated again.

But in general I would say that it is very important to do something every day. Even if it is only a small thing. Sometimes you say to yourself "I'll take a 3 day break" but those 3 days quickly turn into 2 months. It is important to keep going. Even if the progress is sometimes hardly noticeable, it helps to build a routine.

Thanks for the reply @OPunktSchmidt . I agree with you on the just keep going part. People also say "I need a holiday and when I come back everything will be alright" . A holiday or a short break helps but when they resume work again, they got to take the step forward to make progress.

Makerlog have this great feature called Streak, it's basically to push something everyday and the streak continues. If the maker stops then the streak stops too.
