Himalayas Job Search

New filters to make it easier to find jobs and companies that fit your needs

If you're looking for a remote job, you can now filter results by employee benefits and markets, alongside our existing time zone, country, company, salary, and type of work filters. These filters make it easy to find roles that match your needs and experience.

For example, you can now search for software engineering jobs with a 4-day workweek in the SaaS industry.

As part of this, we also improved the relevance of our job sorting algorithm.

If you're researching remote companies, you can now filter by tech stack and employee benefits. This means you can easily find companies that use the tools and technology you love, with the employee benefits you need.

In addition to these improvements, we've removed the limit on our dropdown options and now lazy load suggestions as you scroll.

Other fixes and improvements

  • Switched image hosting to Cloudflare Images
  • Added applicantLocationRequirements to JobPosting schema
  • Added +X more button to tech stack summaries
  • Fixed bug causing work email to show instead of personal email in Himalayas Recruit
  • Transitioned Ghost to a headless CMS
  • Minor scaling optimizations
  • Added modal to crop non-square images
  • Minor padding, copy, and color improvements
  • Renamed tech stack category "Front Office" to "Marketing and Sales"
  • Renamed perk category "4-day work weeks (32h)" to "4-day workweeks"

We've already got over 300 companies with employee benefits and perks information, and we're working hard to gather the information for the rest.

For example, you might be interested in the employee benefits and perks that ZapierPerconaVEED.IOAirteamRemote, or Webflow offer.

December 10, 2021 Redesigned our blog

Redesigned our blog to be more helpful to our readers
We've redesigned our blog to be more helpful to our readers. The goal is to make it the ultimate remote work resource by providing actionable advice to remote job seekersemployeesmanagers, and employersacross a range of topics.

The best publications prioritize quality and depth over volume and breath, and we think readers deserve better than a reverse-chronological feed of posts.

The new design gives us more control over how we present and organize articles, creates a more consistent user experience, and lays the groundwork for future improvements.

You can now filter content by topic and intended audience in the left-hand sidebar, and next time you're reading an article, you'll notice a table of contents on the left-hand side that lets you jump to the parts of the post that matter most to you.

Read our advice for remote workers and employers here.

If you have any feedback about our new publication, please let us know.

October 27, 2021 Improved site speed and search accuracy

100 on Google PageSpeed Insights

Speed improvements and more weighting to newer jobs

We've made significant progress this week optimizing the speed of the platform. Loading the homepage, searching for remote jobs, viewing individual jobs, and using our company profiles and tech stacks should be significantly faster. The speed improvements are really noticeable if you land on one of our skill- or job category-based pages, like pages on remote design jobsremote developer jobs, or remote sales jobs.

A bunch of work went into this including improving our caching, lazy loading images, optimizing our search algorithm and image sizes, minimizing JavaScript requests, purging unnecessary CSS, and moving some tasks from synchronous to asynchronous.

We've also improved our search algorithm to place more weight on recently posted jobs, making it easier for you to be one of the first applicants.

If you have any feedback, please let us know.

October 19, 2021 New social images

New social images

Speed is a feature

Based on your feedback on the release of Himalayas 2.0, we’re planning to focus primarily on performance improvements and speed over the next few weeks. This work will make Himalayas even nicer to use and make it faster to find jobs that are relevant to you.

Speed is a feature, one that we consider core to Himalayas and will continue to treat it as a top priority as we scale.

The first investment we have made into this is lazy loading images on our home page and significantly improving the time it takes to build and deploy the site. Improving our build time will significantly reduce the time it takes to upload and test new features, so it’s an important first step.

Updated social image style

In case you’re not aware when you post a job on Himalayas, we automatically share it on our LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook pages, as well as in our community of remote workers. We wanted to make sharing any jobs or company profiles on social media as high-impact as possible so we’ve invested in automatically creating unique and beautiful images to go with each post. To see what they look like, check out our social media accounts or share a job with a friend or colleague!
