IdeaFit
The simplest way to collect users' feedback
⚠️ IdeaFit is my attempt at a modern and easy-to-use feedback board.
From now on I'll be writing my updates here.
My first two posts:
One thing, I haven't told you yet is that since I actually have a day job and a night job 1-year-old son who needs all my attention, I actually gave myself just one hour per day (from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.) to work on side projects.
Maybe that's why implementing a simple feature like social sign-ins (through Twitter and Facebook) took me four days to implement 😅
In my defense, I want to say that the process is very cumbersome. Every provider has its own tricks, and if you configure something wrong OAuth won't tell you what is it.
On top of that Facebook also requires a "Deletion request callback" which is basically a route your website should support, that should delete all the data for the user when Facebook sends a POST request. Hello from GDPR.
I also realized that I don't really want to collect end users' emails. I need them to sign in to be able to create ideas, vote, and leave comments, so I don't really need their emails. I will need an email, to send out notifications (e.g., "The idea that suggested implemented") but for that, I will come with some UX that would allow a user to add an email if she wants to be notified.
✉️ Oh, and also since I don't have a landing page yet, I simply put an email collection form there. Check it out.
