2020 showed a huge rise in independent remote work which is not limited to open source only. Possible future paths for the projects are building a platform where anybody can quickly search and find best monetization platform for given category. Then investigate platform activity, fees, payment options, etc. I converted the spreadsheet into a simple Hugo theme and added sign up page, etc.

By mid 2019 there was a recognition of the open source monetization problem and many companies entered the space. Some early attempts with blockchain left the space and giants such as Github Sponsors, BuyMeACoffee, etc entered. Not only that, monetization challenge was not limited only to open source developers, but many independent creators, authors, speakers, coaches... With that a need for a central place to browse all of these solutions became more apparent.

In the next few months I start collecting any open source monetization platform that came my way to s spreadsheet

The more I collected, the more people pinged with new additions to the list. The list get featured a some conference talks and blog posts by others.

I've attended SustainOSS.org Meetup in London during 2018 and notice the various open source sustainability and monetization challenges and emerging platforms. As an open source developer, the pain expressed in the meetup deeply resonated with me too.
