PETALS

Framework to help improve team health & culture

July 5, 2023 PETALS is launched

To mark my birthday, I wanted to release the website I had been working on for the past few months along with some complimentary social content. The website had been through a few rounds of improvements from some community feedback and was ready to go. I had been playing around with some explainer video content but nothing sat right so I decided to pause that approach to get something live.

Initial feedback and responses have been amazing! A number of friends and peers love the idea and execution, a handful of people registered for the newsletter and my obvious socials got some useful feedback too.

Loads more is planned on the (public) Trello board which I'm prioritising based on user feedback.

January 1, 2023 Product on a page

Last year, I created a little framework I could use every Friday afternoon to retrospectively reflect on my working week. It consisted of 5 areas; productivity, teamwork, learning, enjoyment and stress. I’d score each factor arbitrarily out of 10 and note down comments to substantiate my scores. Over a few weeks, I started to see some trends and guides to ensure I tried to improve them the following week.

My day job consists of managing a number of software engineering teams who generally reflect fortnightly through typical Agile retrospectives. I realised my personal framework could benefit these teams with specific topics to discuss. So I scribbled down some thoughts and ideas and posted them to my blog.

The product on a page was born.
