Being a developer has its advantages: in many cases, you are able to work remotely. Being a remote developer has another advantage: you can live wherever you want. Having this opportunity, we decided to move from Poland to Spain with our girlfriends and live in beautiful Valencia. We rented a small office and we have been working for our American client there. It was all great, but unfortunately, after six months, we realized that being a remote developer has also its drawbacks: your client may no longer have a job for you. That happened in our case. It was a very uncomfortable situation. We started looking for another remote job, but at that time the market was much more difficult than a few years before: there were few interesting offers.
Fortunately, it was not the first time we had to improvise. For us, temporal unemployment means a time to create something on our own, so we had been spending two hours a day looking for a job, and the rest of the day on developing Polydust. The progress we were getting that time was insane: every day resulted in a new feature. We had a website, a newsletter, a forum and a lot of video content on Youtube. The beta tests had started. We were already thinking about the release date. It was January 2017.
We wish we were able to continue this story in a romantic, Hollywood- way, saying that soon after that we released Polydust. Except life is not always like that. After a few weeks of intensive development of our app, we found a good remote job. Over time it resulted in losing motivation to work on Polydust since naturally, it had become a side project. When you have a good yet demanding job and you want to have a personal life it is very challenging to organize more time. So, for many months the Polydust covered itself with dust.
It would seem the project was completely lost, but sometimes the magic just happens. First, we started receiving more and more beta test applications from our website. Then, we saw people commenting on our videos on Youtube and asking where they can get Polydust. It turned out that the seed we sowed has started to grow on its own. We realized it would be a shame to ignore that sign. Amazingly, people saw the potential of Polydust just by looking on our website and the videos. It was clear, that we wanted them to able to actually use it. In the end, we were already closer than further to release Polydust.
After coming back to the active development, we realized there is still a lot of work to be done (and it is always more than it seems). However, we got back the motivation and faith in Polydust. We know there are people waiting for it. We do not want to let them down. We still have unfinished business.
