July 29, 2025 ๐Ÿš€ Big day for QuietNet - just launched Premium and some features I'm genuinely excited about!

One-click iOS setup is finally here ๐Ÿ“ฑ

Remember manually configuring DNS servers? Settings โ†’ WiFi โ†’ Configure DNS โ†’ Manual โ†’ Enter servers...

Now it's: Open camera โ†’ Scan QR code โ†’ Done โœจ

This was our #1 requested feature. Turns out asking people to type IP addresses isn't great UX. Who knew? ๐Ÿ˜…

Performance got a major boost โšก

- DNS event logs: 50% faster loading

- Analytics dashboard: streamlined data retrieval

- Overall experience: infrastructure optimization across the board

Users check their DNS logs more than I expected, so making this snappy was crucial.

QuietNet Premium launched ๐ŸŒŸ

The big addition: multiple DNS profiles. Think of it like having different "modes" for your internet protection:

๐Ÿ“ฑ Strict filtering on kids' devices

๐Ÿ  Different rules for work vs home networks

๐ŸŽฎ Gaming-optimized vs work-focused profiles

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Family-appropriate content filtering

Each profile has its own blocklist config and filtering rules. Finally addresses the "I need different settings for different situations" problem.

What I learned building this:

- QR codes eliminate SO much friction for setup

- People actually want granular control over their DNS (when it's easy)

- Performance improvements feel like magic to users even though they're invisible

Everything's live now. The QR setup alone makes me happy - privacy protection shouldn't require a networking degree.

July 21, 2025 ๐ŸŽจ Fresh look, expanded reach!

Just dropped QuietNet's new logo and we're officially expanding beyond LinkedIn.

What's new:
โœจ Our first official logo featuring a leaf surrounded by a "Q" - symbolizing natural privacy protection
๐Ÿ“ฑ Now on X: @quietnetapp
๐Ÿฆ‹ Just joined Bluesky: quietnetapp.bsky.social

Why now?
Honestly, we've been running without a proper logo this whole time! ๐Ÿ˜… As we've grown, it felt like the right moment to create a visual identity that matches the trust and reliability our users experience. The leaf represents organic, natural protection while the "Q" keeps our QuietNet identity clear.

Our web assets (webpage, webapp) will be updated over the week with the new branding, so keep an eye out for the fresh look! ๐Ÿ‘€

Follow us on the new platforms for:
- Behind-the-scenes development updates
- Privacy tips and insights
- Product announcements (like our recent no-card trial!)
- Community discussions about digital privacy

Building in public means being where the conversations are happening. ๐Ÿ’ฌ

July 17, 2025 Removing Credit Card Friction

About to ship a change that goes against everything I've read about SaaS conversion... ๐Ÿš€

Removing the credit card requirement from QuietNet's trial. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

The "wisdom" I'm ignoring: ๐Ÿ“š

- "Always capture payment info upfront" ๐Ÿ’ณ

- "Free trials without cards have terrible conversion" ๐Ÿ“‰

- "You'll get flooded with tire-kickers" ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Why I'm doing it anyway: ๐Ÿค”

I've been seeing checkouts get timed out and low conversion rates. Classic friction point. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

But here's the thing - privacy/security tools have a unique problem: people need to feel the difference to understand the value. You can't just tell someone "your internet will be faster and cleaner" - they need to experience it. โšก

The bet I'm making: ๐ŸŽฏ

Quality over quantity. If someone tries QuietNet for 7 days and doesn't see value, they probably weren't going to be a long-term customer anyway. ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Better to have people genuinely evaluate the product than stress about remembering to cancel. ๐Ÿ˜…

My hypothesis: ๐Ÿงช

Privacy-conscious users are extra sensitive to friction that feels invasive. A credit card field might actually repel my target audience more than typical SaaS users. ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

What I expect: ๐Ÿ“Š

- Higher trial volume ๐Ÿ“ˆ

- Lower trialโ†’paid conversion % ๐Ÿ“‰

- Hopefully higher absolute paid conversions ๐Ÿคž

- Better product-market fit signals ๐ŸŽฏ

Sometimes you have to ignore the "best practices" and test what makes sense for your specific market. ๐Ÿงญ

Going live this week. Will report back with results! ๐Ÿ“ฑ

Anyone else experimented with removing payment friction? What happened? ๐Ÿ’ฌ

July 13, 2025 Hello Indie Hackers! Introducing QuietNet

Hey everyone! I'm excited to share my latest project with the community - QuietNet, a privacy-first DNS service that blocks ads and malware at the network level.

What is QuietNet?

QuietNet is a premium ad-blocking DNS service with servers in 9+ global locations. Instead of relying on browser extensions that can be bypassed, we stop ads and trackers before they even reach your device by blocking malicious domains at the DNS level.

Key features:

  • โšก Lightning-fast DNS resolution with global servers

  • ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Customizable ad and malware blocking

  • ๐Ÿ”’ Strict no-logging privacy policy

  • ๐ŸŒ Works on ALL devices (phones, laptops, smart TVs, IoT devices)

  • ๐Ÿš€ Actually makes browsing faster by eliminating unwanted content

Why I Built This

Most people don't realize their browsing habits are constantly tracked and sold by ISPs and "free" DNS services. They don't understand why privacy matters until it's too late. QuietNet gives everyone simple privacy protection and ad-blocking without needing technical expertise.

Unlike browser ad-blockers that only work in specific browsers, DNS-level blocking protects every device on your network - from your smart TV to your phone apps.

Current Status

  • โœ… Backend DNS server (Go) handling millions of queries

  • โœ… Frontend Rails app for user management

  • โœ… Global infrastructure deployed

  • โœ… Basic plan available ($4.99/month)

  • ๐Ÿ”„ Working on Premium and Business tiers

Tech Stack

  • Backend: Go with custom DNS server using miekg/dns

  • Frontend: Ruby on Rails

  • Infrastructure: Global server deployment with encrypted DNS-over-HTTPS/TLS

  • Privacy: Zero-logging architecture

What's Next

I'm looking to grow the user base and add features like:

  • Team management for businesses

  • Advanced analytics dashboard

  • Custom blocklist creation

  • API access for developers

Would love to connect with fellow indie hackers working on privacy-focused products or anyone interested in DNS/networking tech!

Check it out: quietnet.app

Happy to answer any questions about the technical implementation, business model, or privacy approach. Always excited to chat with other builders! ๐Ÿš€

Hey, really cool to see this kind of project being shared. Iยดm working on a card game concept myself and this kind of post really motivates me - thanks for sharing!

      Thank you!

The journey is long but just keep going! If you need support, this community is here ๐Ÿ’ช

We are all in this together!

Love the privacy-first approach. The 'no-logging' promise is crucial but hard to verify - are you considering third-party audits or transparency reports?

    1. 1

      Thanks ๐Ÿ’—

You're right: "no logging" is easy to claim, but hard to prove. We're definitely interested in pursuing third-party audits to give our users peace of mind. If you have any suggestions for auditors or organizations we should consider, weโ€™d love to hear them.

Transparency reports are definitely on our roadmap too. We want to share as much as possible about how the service is run, what (if any) requests we get, and how we handle them.

Until then, we try to earn trust by being open, consistent, and accountable. Appreciate you asking, this is exactly the kind of pressure that helps keep privacy real. ๐Ÿ™

Nice. Privacy first services are quite few out there. There are also some services who claim to be privacy first but are not really, behind the scenes. How should customers really trust that this service is really privacy first? Also, the ads on youtube are really annoying. Does this service really block ads on youtube? If so, how does it bypass their ad-blocker tracker?

It's good to see that some founders / builders still value privacy but very few are actually building the true services that do what the founders say.

      Thank you for your comment!

Youโ€™re absolutely right to be skeptical after all a lot of services say theyโ€™re privacy-first but donโ€™t walk the talk.

For us, privacy isnโ€™t a marketing buzzword. We donโ€™t log DNS queries (unless you explicitly opt in for certain analytics features), we donโ€™t use trackers, and we never sell or share your data. We keep things simple, transparent, and let our actions speak for themselves.

As for YouTube ads, DNS blocking canโ€™t fully stop them, since the ads come from the same domains as the actual videos. We can block some tracking around it, but for full ad blocking on YouTube, youโ€™d still need a browser extension.

That said, DNS-level blocking gives you broader coverage: it protects not just your browser, but your mobile apps, smart TVs, desktop software, and IoT devices, things browser adblockers miss entirely.

Weโ€™re building this for people who care about privacy, just like we do. ๐Ÿ’œ Thanks for being one of them.

    Hey there!

    Thanks for sharing.

That's an interesting tool. I would recommend that you improve your landing page with a PAS (Problem - Agitate - Solution) block. The current one is too generic, and it's not clear why someone should stick to your paid platform instead of using Adblock or similar extensions.

    1. 1

      Hi Ihar,

Thanks for the feedback, and introducing PAS.

It does feel like my messaging is all over the place.

I'll work on updating the landing page with this framework in mind!

      1. 1

        No problem, happy to help.
