July 1, 2025 Why I built Simulator even after discovering ProjectionLab

I only started sharing Simulator publicly less than a month ago, though some friends have known about it longer. It took me 14 months to build and launch this first prototype, and I’m really eager to hear feedback to see if it’s worth moving forward.

After posting about Simulator on Reddit, a few people mentioned ProjectionLab — a great tool I actually discovered about 3-4 months into building Simulator. At first, I felt a little disappointed: if ProjectionLab already does many of the things I’m working on, why build another?

But after thinking it over, I felt encouraged. The fact that ProjectionLab exists and has found success means there’s definitely a demand for tools like these — which motivated me to keep going.

I gave ProjectionLab several tries. At first, it felt a bit complex, but with a little more patience, I was able to create a financial case successfully.

From the feedback I’ve seen on Reddit, people want tools that are more transparent, simple, and straightforward — and that’s exactly what I aimed for with Simulator: clear calculations, no hidden logic, and full visibility.

Compared to ProjectionLab, Simulator might lack some features that are still in development but offers a transparent approach through features like Timeline and Accounts Map — which some users might find helpful.
I’m also excited about a new “Create with AI” feature, aiming to simplify case creation, addressing some of the initial pain points I experienced.

Both tools focus on personal finance and management, each serving slightly different audiences. I truly appreciate what ProjectionLab has achieved, and it inspired me to keep pushing forward with Simulator.

June 30, 2025 New feature: Create with AI

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to quickly share a new feature I’ve added to Simulator — Create with AI. I know it sounds buzzy, but hear me out.

I’ve been testing Simulator with friends and early users who kindly volunteered to help. Some created financial scenarios on their own, others we built together. And one thing became very clear: Simulator can feel tricky if you’re not super deep into personal finance or if you’re missing some of the lingo.

Sure, it seems obvious that people have different levels of financial literacy — but honestly, until you watch someone try it firsthand, it doesn’t fully hit you.

So I added Create with AI — a feature that helps you generate a case from plain text. Just describe your life situation (the more detail, the better), and AI will create a simulation for you.

Note: The AI might occasionally add extra details or get numbers slightly off. No big deal — you can easily tweak everything after, or just be a bit more specific in your prompt next time.

It’s still not perfect, but I’m really excited to share it — and would love for you to try it out and let me know what you think!

June 24, 2025 Why I Decided to Build a Financial Simulator

Hey!

Seeing friends getting married and buying houses while I still rent is an unusual motivator to start working on a financial tool, but here I am. I wanted a solution to do some freestyle planning — throw in a job, pension, investments, cash, rent, living in a cheaper city, unemployment, welfare, a car with a loan, stock market swings, interest rate spikes, and top it off with a mortgage.

The concoction was too much for some simpler calculators and budgeting apps I found — or gated behind financial advisor fees.

🚀 Let’s see what the alchemy lab, aka Simulator, brings:

  • philosopher’s stone (not yet)

  • Timeline view to see the long-term plan at a glance

  • Accounts map where every cent is tracked

  • Fully transparent accounting

  • Dashboard with net worth, cash flow, and account breakdowns

Right now, I’m in a so-called beta phase, figuring out if Simulator feels intuitive and actually useful.

  • It doesn’t connect to real accounts — scenarios are created using user-provided data.

  • Upon signing up, users receive a personal space to start with templates or build scenarios from scratch.

  • An onboarding video and live chat support are available for guidance.

  • Planning can be done solo or with a partner, allowing comparison of different paths and testing ideas without real-world consequences.

Let me know if you are interested in checking it out 🙌

About

I created Simulator to model real-life financial choices — rent, pensions, mortgages — without relying on calculators or pricey advisors. I needed something flexible and honest, built for people like me seeking clarity.
