January 5, 2026 Show IH: Spectalist – A minimalist movie & TV watchlist built to master deployment

Hi everyone!

I’ve just launched Spectalist, a minimalist web app to explore movies, TV shows, directors, and actors.

Why I built it: I’m a huge cinema fan, but I was tired of bloated, slow databases. I wanted a clean, fast space to manage my personal watchlist.

More importantly, I used this project as a challenge to master the deployment phase. I wanted to experience the full journey of taking an app from my local machine to a live, production-ready environment with a working login system.

I’d love your help: Since the app is brand new (0 users so far!), I’m looking for some "early adopters" to break things. I’d really appreciate it if you could:

  1. Visit the site and try the search/navigation.

  2. Create an account and test the watchlist feature.

  3. Give me feedback on the UI and loading speeds.

I'm here to answer any questions about the stack or the deployment process!

Check it out here: https://spectalist.com

Thanks for your time!

January 5, 2026 Why did I build Spectalist?

The idea for Spectalist came from two different needs. On one hand, I was looking for a cleaner, more minimalist way to navigate movie and TV show data without the typical 'bloat' of mainstream platforms. I wanted a personal space to manage my watchlist where the focus remains on the creators—directors and actors.

On the other hand—and more importantly—I built this project as a deep dive into the deployment phase of a web app. I wanted to challenge myself by taking a product all the way from a local development environment to a live, production-ready state, managing the entire lifecycle of a login-based application.

Spectalist is the result of that learning journey: a tool built for cinephiles, powered by a developer's curiosity.
