February 2, 2024 Table Capture on Chrome hit 200,000 users!

I'm super excited to have hit this milestone! It's ever-so-slightly bittersweet because I know I have to rewrite the extension for Manifest V3 and I suspect there will be hiccups, but at least I can celebrate this before getting back to work.

Just an install count update for the Microsoft Edge variant of the extension.

It's worth nothing: The Edge variant is an experiment in pricing. With the Edge version, users are forced to "Activate" the extension by purchasing a license. It works reasonably well, but I don't think it's been a game-changer.

January 3, 2023 2023. How far it's come.

This is just a reminder that consistent growth and improvement over a long enough timeframe yields big results: https://imgur.com/a/TieH7kx

Also, for those makers of browser extensions (and I'm sure other apps as well), don't worry about those Christmas dipssssss :)

Such an important reminder, that's an inspiring growth curve!

Steady wins the game and it doesn't lead to burnout :)

September 22, 2022 150K+ Users on Chrome!

The subject line there is really the crux of the update. The Edge version has 10K+ users, while the Firefox one is just under ~2K.

It's worth noting that Table Capture on Chrome has been a work in progress since 2009. I built it for myself back then and improved it casually until 2016/2017. Around then is when I sort of woke up and realized that I had found a lovely niche.

    That's an incredible number, congratulations!

I've been pestering my users a lot. When they uninstall, I beg beg begggg them for feedback. If they leave an email, I respond with thoughts/questions. I respond to reviews. I offer to hop on calls to give 1:1 support.

In summary, I've been doing my best to listen to users and make small changes.

Ultimately I've learned that the UX for the extension isn't great for first-time users, but once they get it, it's solid.

I accomplished this by starting almost a decade ago. And I just kept maintaining the extension and improving it. If only I could decrease my uninstalls, the number might be 5x.

I've mostly learned that what I consider to be solid UX is confusing AF to people.

Hahaha, true been there at work. How did you found out about it and did you changed it to confuse the rest? 😄
      Awesome product btw!

Mostly just by talking to people that reach out or make themselves available. I've tried to incrementally improve, but I probably need someone that doesn't think about DOM structure to design the extension such that you don't need to think about DOMs.

About

I've been working on Table Capture for nearly a decade - I created it for myself because my brokerage account had crappy, unsortable tables.
