Tiler More
A fun game that you will love. Stack letters, make words.
We were selected by the App Store editors to be Game of the Day today! We knew it was a possibility because we provided artwork for it, but we had no idea if it’d ever happen. But today is the day! They did include a factual error (the game isn’t named after Mary Tyler Moore), but that’s okay. Still a huge win!

Inclusion in the "Games to Play This Week" section of the App Store Games tab 10x'ed our daily downloads and we've now crossed 10k! This new attention has also pushed us into the top 40 word games in the US App Store, which is just bonkers.
All this is attention is making us think more about monetization. We'll never do ads or predatory IAP, but perhaps a single 1-time upgrade for cosmetic features makes sense? Maybe some people would pay for an even harder game mode?

We're also trying to figure out how much to bet on Tiler More vs using it as a springboard for future projects. What would it look like to use a free game as lead gen for future Mostly Bits games or other projects?
Has anyone here built an audience around something like this? Any tips or advice? What should be in-game vs on our website, how hard is it to activate this audience later, etc?
Tiler More is in the "Games to Play This Week" list of the games section of the US App Store and we've jumped to #102 in the charts for word games!
I have no idea how it happened? We had some help from Kyle's wife Jillian getting some early attention in a few mobile game forums. We've otherwise not done any marketing besides telling our friends.

We've been in the App Store for almost a week and we've just surpassed 1000 downloads. I honestly wasn't sure if we'd ever get more than a few of our friends to play the game, so it's a really pleasant surprise.
This sustained interest is really motivating us to add to the game!

After nearly a year of working in secret to preserve the integrity of the goof, we launched to the public!
The name "Tiler More" is a play on the name of a shared friend who loves to play jokes on people. Early in the development of the game when we decided to build on the concept of letter tiles, the name came to us and it just stuck. It meant we had to build in private, but it was totally worth it in the end!

We want to collaborate on things together, why not try something neither of us have ever made before? Tiler More is part goof and part earnest attempt at designing and building a mobile game for the first time.
