August 5, 2021 We are on Product Hunt with our newest feature

Hey Indie Hackers!

I'm sure today will be one of the most important days for our startup journey for two reasons:

1- We have launched Resource Centers, which was requested by our users to add a widget on their web app showcasing their onboarding materials, external links, or even integrate their knowledge base.

It's entirely no-code and easy to use. The knowledge base integration especially takes like 3 seconds, it's pretty cool.

2- We offer this feature for 100% free today to celebrate this launch.

So we are both launching a new feature and testing a freemium pricing model today... I'm VERY excited!

PS: Get yours free for your own projects ;)

November 11, 2020 Launched our podcast: No-code Growth Stories

Hey hey!

We are improving UserGuiding everyday to empower non-technical people so that they can create wonders without ever asking for developers' help.

As the growth team, we are using our own tool a lot to announce Webinars, Discounts, get reviews on G2, or train our users about UserGuiding.

And we are also using Zapier, lots of Wordpress plugins, Hubspot, etc to grow our company while our developers focus on fixing bugs & working on new features.

I wonder, what kind of no-code growth tools are YOU using in your daily activities?

We really wonder what tools of growth teams of fast growing software companies are using. So we've started a new podcast for that.

We've published 3 episodes so far:

  • Pilot episode
  • Vukasin Vukosavljevic (head of growth at Lemlist)
  • Aaron Krall

It's our first attempt for doing a podcast so feel free to roast it with your feedback :).

PS: We are also looking for guests, let me know if you'd like to join!

September 29, 2020 We are on Product Hunt today with free ebook

Hey there fellow Hackers,

Recently we've moved to HubSpot, and I've been integration almost all of our data points with HubSpot.

Because we've been growing with Inbound Marketing for the last 2 years, I want to focus on it. I'll be sharing updates on our future experiments too.

Today, we've published our first ever ebook with HubSpot's guidelines and launched on Product Hunt (without partners - we've collaborated with Product School before!)

Let me know what you think, please. You all know how important honest feedback is :)

    Hey Mert,

The logo link at the top of download ebook page takes you to a 404 error instead of your main site.

Hey Joe thanks a lot, fixing it right now!

Congrats! We launched today too on PH. I’m gonna go check you out.

August 24, 2020 We've raised $1.1M seed funding

Hey Indie Hacker community, today I've some fantastic news from UserGuiding.

We've raised $1.1M as seed funding from VCs and angel investors from Turkey and Europe. If you'd like to read the details, you can check the announcement article I've written on our blog.

For this community, I'd like to mention three milestones that helped us get to this point:

  • Our Product Hunt launch in April 2019. We've become #3 product of the month, and 22nd of the year. Wow. That's so cool!

But honestly, we didn't think it was that cool at the end of April. It's true that lots of people signed up for UserGuiding. We've also received some backlinks and PR coverage. But that we had to grow and needed actual paying users. And PH didn't seem to have a good audience for that.

Now, after 18 months, I can gladly tell you that every second we've prepared for the PH launch worthed it. We are still getting attraction from this launch, and it has opened some possibilities we didn't think of, such as partnerships, investor relations, and an enterprise customer.

  • Our partnership with Product School on an ebook and virtual summits.

Our target audience are mostly product managers. And Product School was the perfect candidate for us to do partnerships. Luckily, we had gained their attention as well (thanks to milestone #1).

  • Setting up an OMTM (One metric that matters, aka, north star metric)

It's so hard to set up analytics accurately when you are just a handful of people. You better keep creating content, develop the product, talk to users, etc.

But setting up our OMTM and working on iterations to increase it accelerated our growth. Instead of counting everything, just focus on counting this.

Here's our OMTM:

So for our free trial users to get the value of UserGuiding, they have to build a product tour on their website and embed a small JS code to their website so that it'll be live for their end users.

We thought that, if 20% of our users' end users interact with these tours, then these trial users will understand the value of UserGuiding and will be more likely to buy.

And we were right. Such users are 70% more likely to become our paying users. So we've set OMTM to % of such very active free trial users.

And based on their OMTM status, we personalize their onboarding experience with UserGuiding, send them emails with different CTAs, and retarget them on Ad platforms to nurture them.

PS: Uh, this post is much longer than I thought. I want to write the whole growth story of UserGuiding, even though if it's not supersonic growth like Twitter VC, it might be helpful for some people.

Would anyone read?

Thanks for reading, have a great week ahead
Mert

    Mert,

    First, congrats!

second, My startup could use this product. I'd love to speak with you and see if there is a fit. mark@seesnap.com if you want to reach out.

the issue I have with all the incumbents is they're priced way too high. I want to say pendo said, 8K for a start package. (WTF! ha! 8k) They bleed the market, and that's a poor long term decision in my mind.

It seems like you have at least thought about startups, and startup pricing. Although I would say, the $50 range is most likely a pre-funding startup ceiling. Post funding = sure $99. (and one user is too limited, platforms need to start thinking about reducncy. No smart company has one single person manage a product, there are always at least two)

Hey Mark - thank you a lot for detailed comment.

We actually offer discounts for startups - especially for IH community. We don't have a landing page for this... But if you can fill up this form, my team mates will reach out to you very swiftly:

June 26, 2020 We've passed $20K MRR!

Hey hackers,

This is Mert from the UserGuiding team. I've been away from many platforms for a while. I got married in May! 😍

I wanted to share some updates about UserGuiding and tell what I've learned recently.

Firstly, we've passed $20K MRR today! We've just celebrated this on Zoom and ordered everyone a beautiful pizza at their home 🍕😂

What has boosted our MRR recently is - I've just realized that you can just integrate Calendly with Google Analytics and know which landing page resulted in a product demo. Our Sales Manager, Anas, started to prepare before joining demos with more knowledge, and his demo performance increased by ~25%!

Secondly, I'm back on Quora. I've been away because I had lots of Product Marketing related things to do. Now we have a new hire to take care of them (Our JR Product Manager) and I have more time to create more content.

I've been sharing stuff in our Quora Spaces. One of our Spaces has over 30k members now! Feel free to join as a contributor. Here's the link: https://www.quora.com/q/betterux

(You can check my profile for my other Spaces as well. Happy to grow them together)

And lastly, I've found this amazing Data Studio report for Google Search Console. It helped me get some very valuable insights quickly. You can find its maker on Twitter and thank her: https://twitter.com/hannahrampton

I think this covers it for now. Stay safe, wear a mask, and keep hacking!

PS. I'll share a BIG update from UserGuiding in July. Stay tuned :)

April 14, 2020 UserGuiding's new Product Hunt launch: COVID-Meter

Hello Hackers!

We've been trying to stay healthy and keep building for the last ~40 days now. Hope you are doing well and keep your motivation level high too!

We wanted to build something that will help our users to cope with one major struggle that affects all our personal and business lives: uncertainty.

So we came up with this idea to offer a free survey tool for teams to learn more about their users with only a few clicks.

You can just sign up and try it out. It's totally free.

Here's our launch link on PH: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/covid-meter-surveys

Any questions? Let me know!

Hey Nash, before designing a landing page etc we wanted to test the idea. For 30 days, we'll try to understand if there's enough demand for this :)

      Thank you for the feedback!

PS: As far as I know, we didn't join any podcast on entreprenur.com. Can you share a link with me, if someone has mentioned us? :) Thanks!

Hello Alex, thanks for your comment. Let me know about your experience with it! :)

December 25, 2019 We've passed $10k MRR!

Last week, we've reached one of our biggest milestones: We've passed $10k MRR!

2019 has been a great year for us. I'm sure 2020 will bring many amazing things as well. I'll be happy to share our big news here again!

Here are some fun facts:

  • Our customers onboarded more than 5M end users in 2019.
  • Companies from 80+ countries opened a UserGuiding account.
  • Onboarding flows were completed 3 times in average by the same end users.

And a few things we've learned:

  • We are 10 people now, were 4 last year. Now we understand why product management tools are so popular & valuable.
  • After we got our seed investment, things got accelerated interestingly.
  • But, money runs out quickly. Very quickly. That's why an expense sheet is very important.
  • Most of the proven growth hacks on the internet are already exploited and/or expired. Try to find your own hack.

    Well done!

    What have you hired for?

Where has most of your growth came from?

    1. 5

      Thank you!

We've hired our 3rd developer and a customer success manager.

Also, we've hired 3 part-time interns for marketing.
One more fun fact: All 10 of us are from the same university!

So far high-quality blog posts, Quora answers, and targeted ads for the bottom of the funnel worked well for us!

I've also tried outbound emails, but haven't really got many results yet.

      1. 1

        Nice!

Will have to ask you some questions about Quora and ads when we get to it :)

We plan on doing highly targeted cold emails, had good success in the past with it.

        1. 1

Of course! Sent you a connection request on LinkedIn.

  2. 3

It seems that 10 employees are too much for only 10k MMR. How many "employees" are taking salaries and how much do you have invested?

I like your product and your page, very cool and impressive! You have a product that could be used by SOOO many users. I know of a start-up that could be interested in something like this.

    1. 2

Thank you for your kind words! Definitely let's talk. I'll send you an email asap!

All of us are taking salaries. They are below country average of course. Because we are currently in a country where USD is valuable, and earning USD, our cost for salaries is actually low.

We got a seed funding for $194k by the way, which we plan to use until August'20 and reach ~25k MRR.

      1. 1

Great to hear that! Keep up the great work.

I shot you an email back, best of luck.

  3. 2

Hmm, 10 employees ... can you share your seed funding amount? Personally, even if I got 200k in funding i wouldn't hire more than 3 people at 10k MRR or below. I guess that's what happen when you raise, you're kinda forced to try and grow super-fast no matter what.

    1. 1

      Thank you for your comment!

      Sure, we raised $194k.

The reason we are 10 people - 7 full and 3 part-time, is just as you said, we plan to grow really fast and our product requires somewhat customer support & success so we need dedicated people to always look for what users are doing, and engage with them proactively.

Also, as I mentioned in another reply a few minutes ago, currently USD is very valuable in our country and we are earning USD so it's relatively cheaper to hire high quality people.

  4. 2

That is excellent well done and good luck in the future

    1. 1

Thank you for your kind words and wishes!

  5. 2

Could you add a pricing plan for startups? Would be more affordable to have a free plan for startups at 300 MAU.

I think that will skyrocket your revenue.

    Other than that, great product!

    1. 1

Hey again @codeables, our special plan for startups is LIVE now. Can you fill this form? https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfmIZH33kYUhsVZFnfNCEe_rzYlDGFxWPXkiYhoFFHthPaHTw/viewform

      Thank you for your comment!

We hired developers, a customer success manager, and part-time interns for content & advertising.

Our first plan was to work with freelancers. But currently USD is valuable in our country, and it's actually cheaper to hire local people than hiring freelancers. Also, we are all from the same university so we have a good harmony!

But please send me an email if you have an offer! We'll definitely need freelancers :)
