Beautiful minimal image viewer for MacOS

August 5, 2019 Crossed over 100 paid users

Still a small number but another big win for me, considering that no money has been spent on ads.

Happy that 100 people liked the product enough to able to purchase it and so far no complaints!

Now on to the next milestone! So excited!

    Congrats! I think that's awesome.

Are you set up as an LLC or anything like that at this point or still just kinda seeing how it goes?

    1. 2

Thank you!. Just still seeing how it goes for now.

I like how simple it is and how beautifully presented the whole package is. Congrats!

How did you decide there's a need for something like this to spend time building it? I imagine you had conversations / internal thoughts about why this over Preview (as someone mentioned in the comments on PH)?

I second this! Would love to know from the maker perspective about this.

@theBrandonWu @wilbertliu It started from solely my personal need, when I first moved to macOS, I struggled for a while with Preview(the major reason being that a lot of times, it took ages to open, because it had to open all previous windows), even tried other alternatives but none really fit my needs. So I decided to build my own.

I have always been keen on beautiful, simple design with great UX, so I saw this as an opportunity to experiment. Built a quick rough version and it worked well. A friend saw it, loved it and wanted it. That's when I really started thinking about building it into something other people wanted.

So I tested with 10 of my friends, 6 of them bought it. So I wasted no time, packaged it up and put it up on PH. Then spent the whole day creating hotfixes for people who bought but had bugs.

Scratching your own itch! Very nice. This is what I did with my current project as well (blog post from 2016). I do find myself constantly asking if the market will be big enough to support it. Will I be the only person needing it?

I know right! I had that thought too, very persistently that I almost decided to just keep it to myself. But you just never know until you launch.

Even if no one wants it, you already have something you want and can use. So just move on to the next.

Also going to try out Markd!

    Congrats! Whats the next milestone?

Thank you! Definitely 500, maybe. 200 would be equally great but 500 would be the next jackpot for me

Thank you! I launched on the 23rd of June, so about 2 months. Based on analytics, traffic mostly comes from reddit and still PH.

But I now looking to put on the store and other sites that offer mac apps.

July 2, 2019 Crossed $50 in revenue!

It's a small amount but it's a huge win for me because it showed me that people were willing to pay for this. Been speaking to almost everyone who bought and they all like it. Some even bought licenses twice, haha!

Now on to the next milestone. Let's how much we can get. :)

June 23, 2019 Got my first paying customer!

The launch from Product Hunt seemed to have captivated people to want to give me their money! :D

I am so excited, considering how I didn't expect much from this but just to get over my fear of not launching.

So excited for what I can propel this motivation into!

Thank you!. I hope you like it

June 23, 2019 Launched on ProductHunt

Today I launched Viso on Product Hunt! Resulted in 82 pageviews .

Refine your website before launching. There were several typos and errors on my site that I could've fixed beforehand if I'd asked a few friends for their opinions.
Submit multiple times if you have to. This was my third time submitting attempt in two weeks. The first two didn't make it to the front page, but this one did.
Don't pay attention to the haters. There will always be some negative commenters. Ignore them, try not to take it personally, and focus on the positive.
I'm excited for what comes next!

January 14, 2017 Came up with my idea

I've read so many times that you should solve your own problem, and so last week I sat down to think about all the problems in my life.

It turned out that I had quite a few problems worth solving, and the most interesting one led me to the idea for Viso!

Didn't like the viewing experience of Preview on MacOS and most of the other paid alternatives weren't minimal enough for my image viewing experience
