We initially offered the app completely free with no limits for more than a year. On the 14th of October, we activated the paid plans and we gave the users 3 days to subscribe before to enable the usage limits. We still offer a free plan limited to 100 products. About 20 users registered straight away!

A lot of users contacted us complaining about the performance of the app. We have just uptime robot that alerts us when the app server is down but didn't have any monitoring system to check the response time of the server. We started checking all the servers (cpu, memory...) but didn't find any particular problem. After running out of ideas we configured the trial of Newrelic that helped us very quickly to identify the issue, it was a query on the access tokens table performing very badly, just created an index et voila the app was back and performing as never seen before.
Tools like Newrelic might be scary given the price but when the number of users increases it's very important having a monitoring system that sends alerts when the response time goes over certain limit.

We migrated all our servers to Google Cloud platform. The servers are configured using Ansible and Terraform, this will allow us to scale easily the app in the future
