April 22, 2026 I’ve been experimenting with AI video tools — and found something interesting

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been deep in the AI video rabbit hole.

Like many of you, I’ve tried a bunch of tools — text-to-video, image-to-video, etc. Most of them are impressive at first, but once you try to actually use them in a workflow, things start to break:

  • inconsistent characters

  • poor motion continuity

  • too many re-generations just to tweak small things

  • feels more like a demo than a real tool

👀 Recently came across this: https://wan2-7.net

It’s based on the Wan 2.7 model (from Alibaba’s Tongyi Lab), and it feels a bit different from the typical “prompt → random video” tools.

Some things that stood out to me:

1. “First & last frame” control is surprisingly powerful

Instead of hoping the model gets the story right, you can actually define how a scene starts and ends — and let the AI fill in the motion in between.

This makes it feel more like directing than prompting.

2. Character consistency actually works

You can lock a character (face, clothing, etc.) and reuse it across multiple videos.

This solves one of the biggest problems in AI video — identity drift across frames.

3. Edit videos with text (no regeneration)

Instead of re-running the whole generation, you can say things like:

“change background to beach”

…and it updates the video directly.

This alone saves a ton of iteration time.

4. Built for real use cases, not just demos

It seems especially strong for:

  • short-form ad creatives

  • product videos

  • “AI spokesperson” style content

  • fast A/B testing for marketing

Which makes sense — the whole idea is replacing parts of traditional video production (crew, shooting, editing).

🤔 My current take

AI video is finally moving from:

“cool demo”

to:

“maybe usable in production”

…but we’re still not fully there yet.

The biggest shift I’m noticing is control.

Earlier tools focused on “generation quality.”
Newer ones (like this) focus on controllability + iteration speed.

And that’s probably what matters more for builders.

❓ Curious what others are seeing

  • Are you actually using AI video in production yet?

  • What’s still blocking you? (quality? cost? workflow?)

  • Any tools that actually stuck in your stack?

Would love to compare notes — feels like this space is moving insanely fast right now.
