We're starting to build trust and it's showing.
Today, we made around $1338 in revenue in 1 day! Most of that goes to our users, we make about $85. But it's still awesome to see that much money go through WishTender.
Growth has been exponential. It felt extremely slow at first. But things have been speeding up this month. We more than 4X'ed our MRR from September- and October isn't even 2/3 over!
Very excited to see the progress, but there's still no telling where things will go from here. We are optimistic but still skeptical.
July 4th me on Twitter:
"Told everyone on my email list this week that WishTender was live. Only to realize- it was broken and unusable. Scrambled for a few days to fix it while beta testers waited. Now it's actually live.
I think I'm getting the hang of shipping fast."
Later that day I got my first two user signups!
I'm jealous of people who spent 6 weeks to build their MVP. I took a year! No, not working nights and weekends. Working pretty much every single day (I think I took my 30th birthday off) while mooching my way through relatives basements.
I had no clue what I was doing. I was a newly self taught programmer. On top of being inexperienced, SOFTWARE ENGINEERING is another level above programming. I had to learn so much on the fly.
As is usual, I added too much into my MVP. But I don't regret it because I learned a lot.
I never looked at WishTender as a sure thing, but as a way to learn both software engineering and business. I was totally ok with the business failing. Though, I was optimistic.
I struggle towards the end knowing when I was ready to launch. I didn't understand what was ok to leave out? After posting on IndieHackers, peers helped me see I could launch with a lot more bugs than I thought, missing items, and even (though more questionably) incomplete security.
I knew from a previous endeavor, that showing people a demo gets them excited. It helps them see your vision and gets their mind to fill in the blanks with possibilities.
So I spent two days making a visual demo using HTML, CSS, and photoshop that illustrated my solution to the problem.
I showed it to my spouse and sister on this day. After seeing the demo, they volunteered to help with market research.
My friend, who started sugar babying, called me with a problem. Her clients were spending thousands of dollars on her, but were willing to spend more if they could do it via buying her gifts. However, she couldn't find a wishlist platform that fit her needs. On reddit, tiktok, and industry forums, others complained of similar issues.
