30 Days of Growth Challenge!

Will you join me on a 30 days of growth challenge?

Growth, growth, growth! Indie Hackers keep asking about it, but watcha actually doing about it? And are you holding yourself accountable?

How about you join in a 30 day growth challenge? Right here on IH. Starting on Monday July 1st!

In true indie hacker style, this is an MVP version of a growth challenge. Great ideas might be suggested, collaborations may sprout up, and who knows what it will end up looking like by the end of the month?

The challenge, if you choose to accept, is to grow your network, your product, your traffic, or whatever you feel is relevant for you:

Step 1: Take a snapshot of where you are. This could be your Twitter following. Number of customers. Traffic. Take note of it all, and share it with us for the extra fun!

(Optional: you may also want to set yourself some goals)

Step 2: Show up here on IH. Every day would be cool, but whatever works for you. Each day I will start a post and use the #30daysofgrowth hashtag. Leave a comment in that post with what you have done that day.

Step 3: At the end of the month, share a snapshot of where you are and compare it to where you started.

But how can you grow?

Here are some ideas, but I fully expect y'all to chip in with ideas too!

  1. Help someone on: IH, Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit, Hacker News.
  2. Follow 5 people on your chosen platform
  3. Interact with 5 conversations or discussions
  4. Share someone else's blog post
  5. Compliment someone or something
  6. Go to a local meetup
  7. Write something - blog, (IH) discussion, tweet, LinkedIn update, Quora question/answer
  8. Share something you've created
  9. Share something someone else has written/created
  10. Listen to a podcast, and say hello to the podcast host or speaker
  11. Watch a video on YouTube, leave a positive comment
  12. Partner up with someone to swap a tweet, a newsletter ad, seeding of link
  13. Find 5 potential customers, start a conversation
  14. Find someone to elevate
  15. Share some of your ideas in the comments...

Hey Rosie, love the challenge. I'll participate with my personal blog hustleup.io. It has around 0-10 daily visitors.

Until now, I did not share the blog outside of the indie hacker forum. Now, that will change. I have no idea yet how to grow that, as it is purely a personal blog, but I am sure I will get some inspirations from this challenge. Thanks for kick-starting.

I'd love to help you. Email me. 😉

    I am interested.

I just launched careermove.io and honestly don't know what I am doing. I don't know if non-coders will be able to learn how to code and build their own product within 6-9months. I don't know if coders will be interested in this course as well.

I don't know where to start looking for customers. I don't know if my pricing at $1,800 one-time-payment is the right pricing to go with.

I am only hoping to figure things out as the day goes by.

I am looking forward to getting some inspirations from this challenge. And very optimistic that I will get my first customer next month.

Thanks for bringing this challenge up. #30daysofgrowth

    I'm in!

To keep it pretty specific, I'm looking to grow earlybird subscribers on the waitlist for my Sales For Founders course.

Right now, my conversion rates are awesome. But I haven't put much thought or time into getting it in front of people and I need to do that this July, otherwise I won't be able to reduce the price 😢

Already have quite a few ideas how I'm going to go about it, but would love to hear from others who have had success growing audiences/selling courses in the past as well :)

    Excited!

Coincidently this is what I've been doing since joining Indiehackers. I'm trying to help others and write more "how to" articles.

This sounds like just the thing I need. Great list full of ideas for growing and awesome that it takes place during the summer when I have some true free time. I admit I'm bit shy with sharing the things I do so this will encourage me to be a bit bolder.

Count me in! I've just launched my completely rethought and rebranded managed WordPress hosting product, https://autopilot.host

I'm super keen to start building it out and finding out what the market thinks of it. My thoughts for initial growth are to begin connecting with people in my existing networks, which includes local business networking groups, and have a chat with them about their pain points and see if it is a viable option and what they think about it. No pressure, just genuine feedback and thoughts. If anyone wants to come across, great!

I'd like to see us pick up 10 new sites by the end of the month, and ideally bring across the majority of our existing hosted sites from our digital marketing agency.

I love this challenge, and I definitely need some social accountability — I'm a programmer at heart and I always feel so much more comfortable working on features and code (with the abstract hope that it just magically spurs growth) rather than spreading the word about the product.

Buttondown's organic traffic is actually super low: most of the conversion comes from word of mouth, and while my splash-to-registration numbers are really great (~40%) the top of the funnel is so small it often doesn't matter.

So here are a couple data points, and things I want to hit:

    • Go from 325 to 400 twitter followers. This feels pretty arbitrary (it's basically a vanity metric), but it's my main way of communicating changes to the platform so seems like a worthy target.
    • Go from 150 signups in June to 250 in July. This is definitely the most aggressive — a lot of the changes I do will be more long-tail than short-tail! — but I can always juice this through some lightweight ads and content marketing, which is something I want to get better at anyway.
    • Go from 500 pageviews on Buttondown's poor, neglected blog to 1000. Pageviews seem easier to enhance than signups, so this shouldn't be too crazy.
