Hey guys!
I've recently started a newsletter on Substack, arthinkal.substack.com, and am looking for ways to grow my subscriber list. So far the few subscribers I have are people I personally know.
Any tips from Substack writers out here who have some experience in growing their list? Would love to know how long it took as well. I am prepared for the long haul.
Thanks!

Hi, Arthinkal, I'm new to Substack as well. Just posted a link I hope newsletter-writers will find useful in their mission to grow their subscriber base. It's a list of directories where you can get your Substack listed. I've had some luck with some of them and will keep updating as I find more - They won't me link here since I'm new but I'm sleepyhollowink.substack and then the post is that url plus /p/newsletter-listings if that makes sense (my dumb workaround)
Hope this helps! Even though I hate social medias, I make the requisite rounds posting everywhere with limited returns. That said, the whole gamut of all the little things you do to market the thing are all important ultimately.
In theory, the Substack community will start finding you as well. I'm having limited returns on that front as well, as Notes don't get seen it seems until you get bigger. But in time...if you keep doing the good work...
Best,
Krista
Hi Krista! Thank you for your suggestion. Your post was actually quite helpful. I had no idea such sites existed where one can list their newsletters. Appreciate it! Also, I have subscribed to your newsletter.
i was thinking to launch my newsletter (https://10k.isora.me/) on Substack. but decided to stick to the traditional way of hosting a newsletter (own LP + email service).
Substack puts the newsletters into one feed. it destroys uniqueness. make the reading process more consuming. not so intimate, and not so cozy.
you also miss the customization and therefore your newsletter looks like 100s of others. it makes even harder to stand out.
I see. That's a good point. And how did you promote your newsletter? Any tips on that?
Thanks!
i have just started so I'm not a person to ask for an advice 🙂
i shared my newsletter with friends. also tweeted it once. current amount of subscribers: 27. my goal now is not subscribers, but a healthy habit of making issues regularly.
Fair enough. Best of luck with your newsletter!
Interesting question that I need to know too @arthinkalmagazine
