Day 29: 30 Days of Growth

Hey everyone!

We're coming to the end of the month and I thought it would be a good idea to round up our #30daysofgrowth activities today and tomorrow. Tagging people in to remind y'all :)

As expected, many people dropped off, including myself. 😭

βœ… What things did you achieve?
πŸ† How did you or your product grow?
πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ What are you going to do next?
❓Daily updates are hard, now that Courtland is creating groups, should we create a Growth group where we can post growth updates as and when it suits us?

Thanks @rosiesherry, this has been great, wish I did it more but some days didn't have much to write about.

    What things did you achieve?

How did you or your product grow?

    • Had 100s of demos for Versoly
    • For Saas Pages had visitors from 138+ countries
    • Had tons of sites blog about it giving it all that SEO juice (Ranks no1 in some places, we thought SEO would be impossible because we compete against companies with 200+ employees and marketing teams 20x us)

What are you going to do next?

    • I'm thinking of more side projects we can build. It took us a few weeks to build saaspages and it changed the game for us.
    • Need to start doing cold/warm email for Versoly, vanity metrics are great but in the end we all need profits to live on
    1. 2

I tried versoly. I am fairly experienced with no code tools and I have some suggestion for you:

      1. On the landing page you should you use less words and more visuals. Screen recordings of Saas works extremely well.
      2. Asking for the email before trying the product is a turn off for me. I understand that it is hard to collect emails but I suppose that there is a better way to do it.
      3. The first editor, where you choose the blocks, is really good and I was positively impressed. I don't like the fact that you can't change fonts and font sizes. I saw the H1,H2 and so on, but I mean choosing the size in pixels.
      4. I don't like the fact that there isn't a monthly payment option.
      5. The templates need some work. Honestly, I gave a look at the templates before trying the editor and I wasn't pleased, then I tried the editor and understood that you can build very good website with it and that the templates do a poor job presenting it.

Overall judgement, I would use it if I could pay on a monthly basis and could make changes on the fonts.

      1. 1

Thank you for the candid feedback. Much appreciated!

        1. Looking into that. We have done a ton of user interviews and the feedback has led as to this. But we never sat down to unclutter it, we just kept adding.
        2. We are just testing this out we have the demo function built in and have had hundreds of demos.
        3. Thanks the layout editor is a new edition from feedback with users.
3b. A lot of users aren't designers so we didn't want to add in custom pixel sizes just yet. Big update coming with fonts/colors in the next few days.
        4. We're looking to add that.
        5. Templates are the worst part you're right, neither of us are UI developers, we hired a designer but it went bad.

        Once again thank you!

    2. 2

Been off the IH for a while and missed the SaaS pages. Amazing product. Congrats!

      1. 1

Thanks. Can't wait for the next update call :)

  2. 4

    Project: Tripetto

βœ… Shifting focus to growth, resulting in an eagerness to find ways to expand our userbase.

πŸ† Looking at paying customers, Tripetto didn't grow enough. Personally, my greatest gain is trying more things, more often. Failing is part of the job.

    πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ The journey continues.

    ❓ A growth group? I'm in.

  3. 2

Goal: 100 Creators in our travel marketplace beta (https://travlyng.com/)

βœ… Yesterday: zeroed in on signup form, reached out to travelers, twitter campaign

πŸ† Results: site visitors have increased, made another call with a couple traveler currently traversing through South America.

πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ Today: Site changes went LIVE with a new grid layout and wishlist button activated.

Also totally up for a Growth group!

  4. 1

    My update on https:codereview.chat/

πŸ‘©β€πŸ’» 4 new teams signed up for the app
πŸ’Œ 2 new mailing list subscribers
    πŸ“ 1 blog post published
    πŸ— 15 production deployments
    🐦 13 new twitter followers

Small numbers, but I also had 186 billable hours in the same month not related to my side project.

I'm hoping to grow these numbers in August 🀞

βœ… What things did you achieve?
Starting logging progress across my ideas and projects via twitter https://twitter.com/tdbryant2/status/1150810074564235264

πŸ† How did you or your product grow?
I am just getting started. I did integrate stripe and I started creating my first product page here on IH.

πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ What are you going to do next?

    Finish my landing pages
    Start doing B2B outreach
    Become an Apple Developer
Finish Apps and have them available fro preorder

  6. 1

Thanks, @rosiesherry, it was hard to keep up to daily updates but helped to maintain the focus for growth.

    Project: Google Analytics Alerts

βœ… What things did you achieve?

Established some new ideas about how to get new users, gathered testimonials and feedback, talked with users, resumed some forgotten acquisition channels, worked on SEO.

πŸ† How did you or your product grow?

+49 new users on July (still left tomorrow for the 50th new user)

πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ What are you going to do next?

    Finish Stripe integration.
    Establish a referral/affiliate system.
    Expand cold emailing efforts.
Work on SEO for other niche keywords.
Tweak the landing page/tool design to be a bit more professional/serious looking.

  7. 1

I unexepectedly had a ton of things to do that I couldn't focus on this. But I did manage to push out content that performed well. The latest video I posted on the page got more than 2.4K views. I then invited the people who reacted to the video to like the page. I seem to get the feel of what kind of content people want to see from the page. :D

  8. 1

Thanks, @rosiesherry for reminding us each day to post and for all the comments you gave along the way. It was nice to feel that some people are following along, and I also enjoyed reading other peoples accomplishments.

For my main project https://www.michaelagreiler.com it went very well. I had the following goals:

βœ… Increase the number of monthly visits from 6K to 8K
βœ… Increase the number of Twitter followers from 875 to 975 (I actually now have 1000 followers :-) )
❌ Increase the number of newsletter subscribers from 478 to 600. This one is close but I currently have 590. As one post is doing quite well, I might be able to crack my goal by tomorrow.

Overall, I am very happy with the results. The strategy that I explained here worked. I submitted for the first time to reddit and hackernews and was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Well, I wasn't expecting too much.

On the other hand, I dropped the growth of my second experiment project for focusing on something much better. My podcast.
I had no goals set for this but here is what I achieved in this month for https://www.software-engineering-unlocked.com

    βœ… Created landing page
    βœ… Bought domain
βœ… Setup newsletter and landing page
    βœ… Did 6 test interviews
    βœ… Recorded 3 real episodes
βœ… Edited parts of two episodes
βœ… Landed two great VIP guests ;-)

Yes, I'm happy and satisfied with how the month went. Thank you all for following along.

πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ I'll just continue to do what I do and learn and grow. The podcast will air next month. That's the biggest thing in the near future.

    Product: https://growthgame.app
βœ… What things did you achieve?
    – I've completed the majority of coding (but went into the rabbit hole of fixing some underlying tools that I've built earlier and now a couple of products later I see a better way of doing things)
    – Learned tons of things that aren't related to the launch (see #1)
    – Gathered a sizeable email list of people who are interested in the idea and run a few interviews (not enough I think) to learn more.

πŸ† How did you or your product grow?
    – It didn't and reflecting over the past 30 days, I can clearly see that I lost focus. Hopefully, Growth Game will fix it.

πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ What are you going to do next?
    – I need to launch GG.
    – I need to figure out a system for myself that will help me stay focused on a task and "dream" less.

    ❓Should we create a group?
First of all, @rosiesherry, thanks for putting the challenge together. It was a great first run and there is definitely a need for this.
Creating a group or not, depends on what is the goal for it. If the goal is to accelerate and boost motivation to do something over a specific period of time then making posting optional may kill the goal. I think we're all motivated to start and grow our own businesses and we just need the discipline to persist to the place where there is no way back. Making posting optional isn't a motivator to push yourself to do something, so you have a thing to post about. I have no solution for this and looking to find one. Growth Game is actually my attempt to wrap my thoughts around it.

PS I would agree that posting every day is too often, especially, for people who don't work on projects full-time. Weekly would be better.

    Day 29 for pulsemetrics.io

βœ… Had about 30 signups this month

πŸ† We redesigned the entire layout right at the beginning of the month, and fixed many of the bugs that people brought to us. I'm much prouder of the current product than I was at the beginning of the month

πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ Ha! I'm an intern for a company and this was one of my projects, so in terms of what I'm going to do next I'll be heading back to school and hitting the books.

❓I definitely think this is something that should exist, I'm only with this project for the next two weeks, so I won't be as involved after that, but this has been undeniably helpful with letting me process with how each day has built on the last

    I'll do my 30-day wrap-up tomorrow.

βœ… I'm on vacation in Mexico and left some flyers near the local university. They are old flyers I had in my bag, and they are in English, but it's not like the game has a Spanish version yet. It'd be interesting to see how to find the "Learning English" communities.

πŸ† Another user account! Up to 108 accounts.

πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ Might throw up some more flyers around town.

    ❓Sure, why not. I'm down.

Thanks @rosiesherry. This has definitely been a slog, though I do think I've been more productive - at least on some axis - than I would have otherwise, so glad to have participated (and also looking forward to it being over!).

As for today's update - not much to share.

βœ… What things did you achieve?

I dropped off on this pretty hard.

Had some unfortunate personal/family stuff to deal with, which knocked me completely out for a week and left me very unproductive for another week.

I also don't think that 'daily updates' were the best fit for how I'm trying to grow Sales for Founders.

The challenge sort of made me focus on how many signups I was getting each day, whereas I needed to be thinking more long term... What can I do today to be signing up hundreds of people in August and September?

For some people, there might be a good overlap between those two things. For me, there weren't.

Something I did last week, for example, is to reach out to podcasters and book myself onto 5 guest appearances. Reaching 10s of thousands of founders in August and September.

That's something that'll move the needle on my signups hard. But doesn't really show up as a success in this challenge.

    ------

πŸ† How did you or your product grow?

We didn't really. But I'm in a really great place with a strong foundation to grow fast over the next two months or so.

This month, I only added ~150 subscribers.

πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ What are you going to do next?

Work really, really hard on sharpening up my launch strategy for the launch in August/September.

I may also try some retargeting.

Thanks @rosiesherry for organising this. Even though it wasn't a great fit for me, I really appreciate the support, accountability and effort!

    1. 2

Totally agree with the long-term versus short-term observation. I experienced the same, and that's why I just stopped analyzing or posting day-to-day growth. I just reported what I did. This aligned with my goals for a month made much more sense for my current situation.
Looking forward to listening to your podcasts.

    2. 2

Similar for both of us, I had some problems at the start of the month that meant I didn't post in here. Also daily is too much for me personally.

Would love some tips for getting on podcasts? I plan on doing it in the near future. Hopefully I have some unique insights on how to go from 0 to 1.

  17. 1

Thanks @rosiesherry for the #30daysofgrowth challenge. Marketing isn't my strength and having it gamified helped me stay a bit more motivated (although I've certainly forgotten to do it quite a few times :p)

here's my summary doing #30daysofgrowth for markd.co (relationship manager)

βœ… What things did you achieve?

More than anything, we've gotten a lot more user feedback and suggestions in the last month. More previous users came back, and there's more engagement. This helps us set our next few milestones and a general direction.

πŸ† How did you or your product grow?

We doubled our MAU from 300 to 600 in the last month!

(note: I am planning to switch our metric focus from MAU to retention, and revenue in a few months time)

πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ What are you going to do next?

We are finalising terms with a growth marketer to come on-board and help us grow. Also looking for a marketing assistant (ping me brandon[at]markd.co if anyone's interested in helping us build a Trello for Contacts!)

And finally, YES to a Growth group!!
