July 2021 Income Report: $923.88 (-17.21%)

This month dipped down a bit more than expected. In this post, I reflect a little bit on why that might be.

What was different in July?

I started heavily focusing on @dip.chat. This also meant most of my tweets this month were related to that.

Vim for VSCode sales went down almost by 50%. Maybe YouTube stopped recommended this video I was featured in? Or maybe organic traffic went down. Hard to tell.

egghead royalties are down by 30%. I think as more content gets added and as my videos grow older, my videos naturally get less views. Again, I haven't focused on that at all.

I've also spent some time starting a job board called Joe's Jobs. Hoping that will be another revenue stream but will probably take time to get going.

The thing I'm most happy about is an increase for dip.chat. That's what I'm most excited to work on and grow and having more users this month means more validation to keep going.

Side Income Breakdown

  • $90.88 from @egghead-io royalties
  • $340.00 from Vim for VSCode course sales (before fees) on Convert Kit Commerce
  • $6.00 from Vim for VSCode course sales (before fees) on Flurly
  • $457.00 from dip.chat seats sold
  • $20.00 from dip.chat penalty fees

Total: $923.88

Total (year-to-date): $9,942.07

I like the idea of starting a job board for your audience. Curious how are you planning to growth it?

Probably slowly over time, mostly using Twitter since that's where I spend most of my time (and have the largest community). So far, it's been well-received!

Dip.chat is such a great idea!

For Joe’s jobs, where do you get job ads from? stack overflow?

      Thanks Isabel!

Most I actually see on Twitter and then curate on my job board. And then others come from companies who post jobs on the board.

Thanks for the update, this is an interesting project! How did you find this idea? :)

Thanks! Honestly, I just wanted to surround myself with other IHs and devs who cared about making progress on their projects :)

Super cool idea to make this feeling into a cool product !
