June 2021 Income Report: $1,115.91 (+1.04%)

We are heading upwards which is good πŸ˜„ I'm switching my focus from my courses over to a SaaS β€” @dip-chat. Hopefully this will bring in additional revenue it turns out this is something people want.

Here's are summary of things that were different about this month:

  • started new project @dip-chat β€” sole focus right now
  • put TypeScript course on hold

Here's a breakdown of my side income:

  • $151.49 from @egghead-io royalties
  • $640.00 from Vim for VSCode course sales (before fees) on Convert Kit Commerce
  • $54.42 from Vim for VSCode course sales (before fees) on Flurly
  • $25.00 from dip.chat penalty fees
  • $120.00 from dip.chat seats sold (12 total @ $10.00/seat)

Total: $1,115.91

Total (year-to-date): $9,018.19

    Thanks for sharing Joe.

    Given your audience size and the quality content you produce and distribute, this is kind of low. Why is tech content so difficult to monetize?

      Great question! Well a couple things:

      • I used to tweet a lot more about JavaScript and that's where most of my following on Twitter comes from.
      • when I launched the Vim course, I had maybe 28k followers

      So I think I might have had better luck launching a JS course instead of a Vim course.

      Why is tech content so difficult to monetize

      Honestly, I am probably not doing a good job at marketing πŸ˜…I would say there are lot of folks who do this well (Wes bos, Adam Wathan, etc). So I think I'm just a noob and will get better over time.
