June 2021 Income Report: $1,115.91 (+1.04%)

We are heading upwards which is good 😄 I'm switching my focus from my courses over to a SaaS — @dip-chat. Hopefully this will bring in additional revenue it turns out this is something people want.

Here's are summary of things that were different about this month:

  • started new project @dip-chat — sole focus right now
  • put TypeScript course on hold

Here's a breakdown of my side income:

  • $151.49 from @egghead-io royalties
  • $640.00 from Vim for VSCode course sales (before fees) on Convert Kit Commerce
  • $54.42 from Vim for VSCode course sales (before fees) on Flurly
  • $25.00 from dip.chat penalty fees
  • $120.00 from dip.chat seats sold (12 total @ $10.00/seat)

Total: $1,115.91

    Thanks for sharing Joe.

Given your audience size and the quality content you produce and distribute, this is kind of low. Why is tech content so difficult to monetize?

    1. 1

Great question! Well a couple things:

      • I used to tweet a lot more about JavaScript and that's where most of my following on Twitter comes from.
      • when I launched the Vim course, I had maybe 28k followers

So I think I might have had better luck launching a JS course instead of a Vim course.

Why is tech content so difficult to monetize

Honestly, I am probably not doing a good job at marketing 😅I would say there are lot of folks who do this well (Wes bos, Adam Wathan, etc). So I think I'm just a noob and will get better over time.
