Shameless Plug Friday! What did you build this week?

I wanted to give you an excuse to share the progress you've made on your side-project! What are you working on? What are you excited about? No achievement is too small.

Let's end this week on a positive-note and support our fellow Indie Hackers...

  1. 11

Hi everyone. I am Akash, founder of linkish.io . We are building a number of link related tools starting from a link / bookmark manager for individuals and teams and THIS WEEK we are coming out of local development and building our production servers.

In the app once you import your bookmarks it automatically assigns 1 of the 5 super tags to your links : #see for images, #watch for videos, #listen for audios, #read for articles, #explore for everything else. Then it embeds audio/video link's content right in the dashboard so you don't have to open your bookmarks in 20 tabs to see what's in them.

Currently open for sign ups and launching this week.

Oh! and it's completely free to use :) . Please checkout https://linkish.io/

    1. 2

This looks incredible @linkish_io. Great work, I can't wait to try it out! Thanks for sharing 🔗

      1. 1

Thanks @schoon. I am sure you are going to love it! :)

    2. 2

Well done! The website looks really good!

      1. 1

Thanks @koder. I believe every product should look good and be easy to use :)

    3. 1

I completely agree, the website looks incredible @linkish_io. Would love to learn more - did you use any templating engine? I would love to build something similar for our product.

      1. 1

Hi @ujnamss ! Glad you liked it. We built the website in MERN stack so you are seeing a react website there.

        1. 1

cool - would you mind if i reach out directly to you on your email?

  2. 10

My product, https://norde.io, launched on Product Hunt and has been getting a lot of traction since. Over 750 downloads in the last one or two weeks.

    1. 3

That's awesome @gilli! This product looks really cool. Does the "store" section allow designers the ability to sell their icons?

      1. 2

Thanks @schoon, that was the eventual goal with the store and why it's named like that. So if you know anyone who has made a high quality icon set, send them my way! :)

    2. 1

Pretty good project, I'm curios if someone has paid you with this "pay what you want" option

      1. 1

Yes quite a few people have paid, I've made several hundred dollars in the last week. It's a nice motivator.

    3. 1

Looks really interesting. I am going to give it a whirl, but just wanted to check. Have you used it with complex mono/dual colored illustrations?

I am going to try it with https://getillustrations.com/ lets see how that goes.

      1. 1

What do you mean with complex mono/dual colored illustrations exactly? It works fine with flat svg illustrations like Open Peeps. Let me know how it works out in your experiment :)

    4. 1

Hi @gilli. Nice stuff. Someone mentioned your product in a discord server for startups. Was it you? lol

      1. 2

Nope, I'm only in a discord server for Vue.js. But thank that person for me will you? :)

    5. 1

Oh and I also made my first few dollars from it, which is a great motivation!

  3. 8

I relaunched my website! https://FiredBeforeChristmas.com and published my 2nd episode. I'll be editing two more episodes over the next two weeks and working hard to get more in my pipeline...

    1. 2

Nice! I've learned that editing podcasts is my least favorite part of podcasting haha... I have great recorded audio with @jcheng45 and @gordon that I want to edit and post. That's something I should definitely commit to doing over my upcoming 4-day weekend.

      1. 1

That's funny because I really love the editing portion. I think it's the perfectionist in me. Being an old data geek and backend programmer it fits with my temperament nicely.

        1. 1

Yea, my problem is that I am a perfectionist and care way too much about the output.

          1. 1

lol i despise editing, i think it is also overwhelming listening to myself over and over again

    2. 1

      get some! keep going!

  4. 7

    Hi, fellow Indie hackers,

My name is Yahia and I'm working on Stock Alarm - Stock Market Alerts.

Our platform provides reliable stock alerts to thousands of traders every minute. We provide alerts based on simple triggers like price limits or complicated technicals like SMA/EMA/RSI/Sentiment etc...

We're super hyped because we're working on a web app and will be launching it fairly soon. Also releasing new types of triggers every day!!!

Stock Alarm has also just crossed 6K MAU and we get a ton of requests from our clients every day so we're just happy that our product is actually helping people out there! (FYI: I trade options and use it religiously #WSB).

    1. 1

Congrats! Can't wait to try out the web app. Any plans to release an Android app eventually?

      1. 2

Working on it as we speak!

  5. 7

    🚀

As makers, Google Analytics is our defecto tool when it comes to tracking all our WIP & side projects making Google Analytics a big mess.

It has made tracking any new project a nightmare ☠️ for us.

To overcome this frustration we build a single page GA view with most relevant insights and top referrals for any project.

This week we release our beta and we are open to all kind of feedback good😇, bad 😈and ugly💩 Take a look, hope you’ll like it

    https://shanc.app/

PS: We only pull project data and don't save anything except google key because data management is hectic and we are lazy. 😊

    1. 2

      Thats an amazing work!

  6. 5

I managed to bring my blog back, self talking mostly. Planned for the next month which I couldn't do from last month. Tidy up some website related things. Connecting more people to interview. So its slow but not bad.

    1. 3

You know what they say, slow and steady wins the race! What's the URL to your blog?

      1. 3

blog.bizboostltd.com, I used to have on my name but with conflicts with hosting provider, I got angry with them and cancelled. So may be some pointers go to wrong urls.

  7. 5

Great idea @schoon. I worked on a couple new courses that will go live on opensourcecapital.co next week.

What was your biggest win this week?

    1. 4

NEW COURSES!?! I can't wait, I really enjoyed your first one.

I was pretty heads down on Clipps stuff this week. I also made some side-money as an advisor/consultant on my friend's new side project Trusting.co.

      1. 2

        Thanks very much my man.

That sounds great. Looking forward to seeing Clipps evolve. Great that you are also making some side money along the way!

    2. 4

i love what you're writing about! good, thoughtful content.

      1. 1

        Thanks my man. Appreciate it!

  8. 4

    Hey,

I am building Konvo. I've been working on getting an early version of Konvo (sign in, profiles, user search) ready for subscribers to have a look at.

Take a look at this thread for some screenshots.

    1. 1

This is a really interesting idea @hessel! So you're actually talking to a single person, or is it an asynchronous conversation with the larger community about that topic?

Also, as others watch your Konvo, can they react or comment to it?

      1. 1

Yes and yes! You are talking to a single person. It's a 1:1 conversation capped at 5 minutes, that others can comment on/react to when they watch it.

I got the idea from watching 5-min outtakes of video-podcasts, where the conversation in the outtake is only about one topic - they seem to be popular, so I wanted to see if I could recreate the effect using a social platform.

  9. 4

Updated my new webapp CrwdCoach.com - it's based on the concept of crowd-sourced feedback for video-based performances, from your golf swing to singing to speaking (basically anything you do in which you want to improve).

Would love any feedback and in particular, thoughts on the best ways to help grow its usage; thanks!

    1. 2

That's a great idea. Will the people providing feedback be other users or actual coaches?

Is this your first no-code project? How do you like using Bubble?

      1. 2

Thanks. Feedback on an activity could be either: other users who 'know' about the particular activity from their own experience, or users who are actual professionals/coaches who 'really know(!)' about the activity.

Feedback will be rated by the 'crowd' so the best feedback rises to the top. This presents an opportunity for actual coaches to demonstrate their expertise.

This is my first #nocode project. I had started this a while ago but really moved it forward last few months. I like Bubble in that it's really capable in what you can do (eg setting up a database type app, supporting user login, etc. like I have) and there's a really good community to help you out.

I'd probably do things a little differently if I were starting out now given what I've learned and how Bubble's advanced from when I started. App responsiveness (ie getting to work on mobile) is pretty arduous but somewhat doable as most folks seem to agree.

If you're interested, I'd love you to try out the app (adding your own video, providing feedback, rating existing feedback) and let me know what you think, any issues, etc. Much appreciated!

    1. 3

Wow these are great! Keep it up!

      1. 1

Thanks! Good progress on your project too! Curation is the future, just got to out google Google.

    2. 2

Putting out some really good content!

      1. 1

Thanks Mike. Look forward to yours!

  10. 4

we launched our new landing page with a simplified homepage. and we're doing a "rolling admission" experiment with our paid community.

    1. 3

Love the new rolling admission pivot! How's the updated curriculum working out? It looks like @witsuma has been doing great.

      1. 3

Even without a cohort it's been great for me. Look forward to taking care of future newcomers already lol I'm still on Day 3!

        1. 4

The best part about Community is getting to know the "future newcomers"! I've learned so much from each new member of the Yen community.

          1. 2

+1 to this. i'm so glad we've got it.

        2. 1

i'm glad you're still finding it helpful and useful! and, you're doing a great job on the assignments! it's a lot!

          1. 2

            Indeed it's A LOT haha. That's great!

      2. 2

the curriculum has been only added-to since you've walked through it.... more examples and more refined approach.

but, otherwise, the good shit is still there, of course. :P

  11. 1

Built https://evoke-app.com/ 2 weeks ago actually, just hoping to scale it now!

  12. 1

Hi, on February 22nd we're organizing a webinar focused on how AlphaBOLD is enabling enterprises to build smart mobile solutions by keeping pace with a technology driven business environment through a holistic approach which improves customer experience and employs artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to maintain a competitive edge.

I hope this is of interest. Register today, using this promo link - https://www.alphabold.com/ai-webinar-mobile-solutions/

We also offer a free trial & assessment upon attending the webinar. Note: Please make sure to register using your official email address. Personal email addresses will not be recognized.

  13. 3

I am working on https://www.colorsandfonts.com and yesterday I redesign 2 color pickers and added a new one too.

    Then added

Planning to rework the landing hero just now...

    1. 1

By the way, I noticed the copy to clipboard doesn't always work. It'd be handy to include the code in the popup to make it easier when/if that happens to others.

      1. 1

That must be a class missing...would you nind tell me which one?

    2. 1

Ooh nice! I've been wanting to add gradient options to my video app. Might have to work these in somehow ;-)

      1. 1

How cool ! Would love to see the result Andrew !

  14. 3

I launched JAMstack News a weekly curated newsletter of the most interesting news, articles and other developments in the #jamstack eco-system.

  15. 3

    I launched both Branded Background
    and
Will My Job Give Me Covid-19?

Both are in partnership with other founders, so I get to focus on the development side of things.

They both did well and looking forward to see them continue to grow.

  16. 3

    I am preparing for a relaunch of a simplified platform — https://looksideway.com/.
I am the solo founder/designer/developer/janitor of Sideway. It's a community of designers showcasing published work!
I launched earlier this year in January, since then have almost about 1300+ designers onboard. I have cut down to just a few features according to user behavior and feedback.
Then after that it's more of finding my community access to freelance/contract/full-time work. So pumped!
If you are a designer/front-end developer or just a person looking to hire designers then please consider using https://looksideway.com/

    1. 1

Love it ! You should submit it here.

      https://www.colorsandfonts.com/submit

I can put it up live soon as you enter the details !

      Good luck buddy

  17. 3

Just launched the first version of Instant Emoji, the fastest emoji search engine ever ⚡!
This weekend, I'm adding the support of more languages and improving the search relevancy.
I'd love to hear your feedback and ideas.
    https://www.indiehackers.com/product/instant-emoji

  18. 3

I helped a friend of mine launch a new project called www.projectwingmanusa.com on the side. It's an initiative where airline crews are coming together to support health care professionals. Right now they are running a few pilots in hospitals in NYC.

Do support them if you like. They are doing some incredible work.

  19. 3

Added a new plan to ZENmix.io for YouTube creators, so they can use the sound mixes on YouTube. Got a few emails regarding that, so let's try.

Updated my chrome extension Motivate with 2 feature requests. You can move the goal countdown now on the current page. And one can take a day off.

Started to build a landing page for the upcoming Inner Peace membership program of the MindfulDevMag to clarify my thoughts and vision. And got feedback and people on the waitinglist.

Set up a Mindfulness Challenge and run the first batch this week on one newsletter.

  20. 3

I'm working on a free mini-product which we hope to use as a top-level feeder to our main product.

The main product is https://affilimate.com, which is an affiliate optimization tool for the "long tail" of online publishers (e.g. bloggers). This new free mini-product will scrape your site for broken/out-of-stock Amazon affiliate links and then send you a report via email (not a new idea at all).

The idea is that people can use and share the free tool, and then they're likely to be potential customers for our analytics tool, or grow into that size eventually.

Lots of the scraping is working, so this weekend we're working on the frontend and hooking it all up 🔥

  21. 3

I started a blog on my personal website, http://blog.mikeclark.xyz/
Not sure of the direction at the moment but I feel like it's a good idea to start, pretty happy with it too!

  22. 3

Not built this week but improved it immensely. A free audiobook app for google home (and all devices supporting google assistant).
The app is called 'Book Reader'
    details are at https://blog.speakhub.io/free-audio-books/
and to try it directly, start here: https://assistant.google.com/services/invoke/uid/0000009e67666043

    1. 1

      Any plans to monetize this?

      1. 1

Not this one directly. But I'm building another Saas tool that allows listeners to discover and play audio content from independent creators directly over Google assistant and Google home.
I plan to monetize that and this Book reader will be part of that subscription over free tier

        1. 1

Can the creators earn money in your other Saas? I got a couple of audio books and so and look for new distribution channels.

          1. 1

Yes, creators can earn money through that. There would be two ways of monetization for creators: of creators already have paying users in their end, they can use the Saas to distribute the content at a flat fee per user.
If the creators do not have a paying subscription model at their end, then a revenue sharing system would be in place for every user that subscribes to the creators content thru the Saas.
Happy to discuss this over email or call. You can reach me at [email protected]

  23. 2

Noob at everything dev concerned. Began learning web dev during the lockdown and made a sticker pack for WhatsApp from a template. Not really a side project/hustle, though. If you like Jamaican culture you might like these stickers rb.gy/oqsnci

  24. 2

I'm developing slowly but surely DevDash, a dashboard for developer in the terminal, highly configurable. You can bring metrics from Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Travis CI and Github on one dashboard. I'm adding the functionality to grasp some monitoring data from a remote server via SSH now.

    1. 1

Wow this looks really cool @MatthieuCneude!

  25. 2

Finally completed MVP for my product after procrastinating for months. Hopefully will launch soon!

    1. 2

      Stick with it! 👍

  26. 2

I started collecting emails for the open beta release of my firebase content management studio project called fireful! Added history retention and restore functionality to the product as well this week!

    1. 1

      That's awesome, congrats!

  27. 2

I delivered my first bag of coffee to a unknown customer. She loved it so much she messaged back to say she will be ordering again. Yay maidabeans.com

    1. 1

Congrats!! I remember reading about when Amazon started and they received their first customer who wasn't a family member or close friend, and how happy their small team was. Such a huge accomplishment!

  28. 2

I put up a MVP of my site, Level Up Your JavaScript - https://www.levelupyourjs.com.

It's a curated list of resources for learning JavaScript, Node and React.

I've found there are a lot of learning resources out there, but harder to find quality ones. I'm taking a blogging course so am exciting to create useful content alongside my site to help grow traffic.

    1. 1

This sounds great! Unfortunately, it's not loading for me 🙁

  29. 2

A new landing page & pivoted:
A reading app for professionals: pipfeed.com

    1. 1

      Very cool, this looks great.

      1. 1

Thanks a lot. Let me know if you tried the app yet or any suggestions you might have.

  30. 2

Hi. 👋 I've made updates to See Memo (seememo.com), your custom widget toolbox. Updates include a new type of widget: NPS surveys. Your thoughts/feedback much appreciated! 😁

  31. 2

Haven't launched yet but i'm a designer and i'm currently redesigning a project that I had an MVP for a couple of months ago that had seen great success. I have a developer who's currently building the redesign and I'm super excited!

  32. 2

Great to see all the work being done. BTW, even if you have 1 like on this page, I still looked and others do too. Don't give up!

This week I made a virtual tour from a past 3D architectural rendering project. We are testing device capabilities and load times right now.

https://3das.com/vt - what device did you view on, which country are you in and how long was your initial load time?

    1. 2

I checked it out on my Macbook Pro, using Google Chrome, from Texas (USA), and my initial load time was very fast. The only slow interaction is the movement using the arrow keys. It almost feels like it didn't work, and then a few seconds later the spinner pops up and it moves.

      1. 1

Thanks for checking @schoon. Each movement loads up a new 360 rendering so there will be lag, but I'll see if there are ways to make the image size smaller while keeping the resolution intact.

  33. 2

Hi everyone, we re-launched Linkfork https://linkfork.co. We refreshed design and added support for google analytics. Got a few new signups already :D

  34. 2

I'm working on a Chrome Extension to Better Manage Bookmarks. Screenshot: https://imgur.com/lWk8xaY

    1. 2

Good luck! I recently saw a Tweet talking about the overlooked opportunity in Chrome Browser plugins... https://twitter.com/Suhail/status/1262244967583367168

  35. 2

I ran a successful(?) Twitter giveaway for my most recent book, JavaScript Everywhere https://www.jseverywhere.io/

    1. 2

Congrats!! If you're happy with the results, then I think you can call it a success!

  36. 2

Completely redesigned our homepage at https://DEVY.io

  37. 2

Hey, everyone. So good to see people sharing their achievements. I am building the tool for designtack and my only progress is that I have built the basic version of it. Code still going on 😅

  38. 2

I published a collection of newsletter formats. What are the most interesting formats you can use to create your own newsletter. https://medium.com/@frankmeeuwsen/these-are-the-10-most-used-newsletter-formats-a32de9ce09b0

  39. 2

After two years I finally got around to redoing keyframes.app - it's a toolbox of several apps to help you write CSS.. Things like animations, box-shadows, etc.

I wanted to learn Vue, and wanted to get better at mobile/PWA stuff - so I used this as an excuse. It's my first project on Vue, and I spent a bunch of extra time making it look and feel as native as possible on mobile.

I just put it up this week, and have been looking to get feedback. I have a few more ideas for tools I'll be adding to it soon, but would love to hear any other ideas anyone has!

    1. 1

      Link?

Used Vue a couple of times now. Totally like it too :-)

  40. 2

    Alert! Shameless Plug.

I worked on a pdf+video webinar on Facebook Ads Targeting & launched it this week. Already got some sales.

    Link: https://gumroad.com/l/aZmeh

(Have a discount code for first 10 buyers. Code: welcome20)

Would love to hear feedback :)
    Cheers!

  41. 2

I moved my authentication from auth0 to firebase for https://smalltuts.com

I also added the ability for tutorial creators to charge for their content! If you would like to try this feature out, feel free to reach out to me!

    1. 1

Nice! I actually have a question you may be able to answer... Does Firebase Auth allow for 2-factor authentication? I'd like to use it on a new project, but I need 2FA.

        1. 1

Thanks! This is actually better than the one I found.

  42. 2

I launched my landing page and setup my first newsletter about my progress building https://chiffre.io, with 14 subscribers so far.

  43. 2

Shipped a few things for Yomi.ai this week:

    • light mode
    • Japanese -> English dictionary lookup
    • random reading
    • subscription center (change payment methods, view invoices, cancel subscription)

Made process on a few other things and had many great 1-on-1 conversations.
Didn't get as many new subscribers than I wanted though.

    1. 1

Great idea. Sadly, too advanced for me. Do you have children books with Hiragana only in your portfolio? That could help language starters too.

On a side note. Do you know a translator for english to japanese? Am thinking about translation of one of my apps, and love recomendations.

      1. 1

Children books (for adult learners) are actually often a lot harder, because they are far removed from what textbooks teach you. We are trying to make it a lot easier for people who are just starting out with their language learning.

It's crunch time for the translators I know, because they're all also working as teachers. But I'll reach out to some and ask if they are willing to take on more work.

  44. 2

We shipped a free portfolio product https://horizontech.dev/create-portfolio. A simpler way than resume and LinkedIn.

    1. 1

Clicking the “create your own” button takes me to a blank page. I think there was a form loading but it always goes finishes on a blank page. I was looking at the site on an iPhone 6 Plus, if that helps

      1. 1

Thanks for checking out. Sorry about the issue. We will look into it.

        cc @weekash

    2. 1

This is a great idea, I'm trying it now :)

  45. 2

I'm working on Letterbase, a new customer support tool. Just launched it in early access this past week :)

  46. 2

Been working behind the scenes on new episodes for a podcast a mate and I have been working on, matchbox.

  47. 2

I am working on https://www.swipe.page/ -- the product is not finished, and payments not set up -- having a lot of trouble with Gumroad ;(

  48. 2

I’ve been working on my first Webflow project: https://www.companymortgages.co.uk
There’s plenty to do. It’s working progress but coming together :)

  49. 2

Loving your energy more and more Dan :)
I got my first two customers for my VA agency 250BPO.
I was excited, scared and pumped all at the same time when I saw that someone actually paid us money.
So if you guys need some tasks taken off your plate feel free to reach out :)
At 5$ per hour for all sorts of tasks it's a sweet deal

    1. 2

Also task-based payment? Or just hourly?

      1. 1

What do you mean? I tried to keep the pricing easy so it's just 2 packages 49$ for 10 hours or 99 for 20. The client decides how to allocate these hours.

        1. 2

To say it with Jonathan Stark's words, hourly billing is nuts. You can't by hours. As a client I am not interested in hours, I am interested in getting X done for my business in my budged. I do not now how long it takes to write/code/design X, besides estimations are always wrong, and I don't care.

However, when I buy your hours package I have to care because now I am focussed on these hours, i have to get your estimate, deal with missed estimates, etc.

As i read your post i was considering it and thought, yeah cool, maybe i can get some coloring pages done. But then i realized, i had to get estimates first, because i don't know how long it takes, so i have no clue what the cost per page are. Hmm can they hold their estimates. It ditectly created friction for me.

On the contrary, i can go on fiverr, go through the pain of picking a provider, hire them i know upfront it cost Y.

As i am still interested, what kind of tasks do you offer? And how long does it take to complete?

          1. 1

Well that's why it needs to be task that you've already done and know how long it takes. For example for transcription we'll charge 5 dollars per hour of completed transcription, if you have 2 hours that's 10 dollars.
Typically what we've seen is people will show us an example of their process and the VA will watch the loom a do the exact same thing.
This works well for data enrichment, finding the info on different websites and adding the data to the client's google sheet.
Happy to talk about your needs in private :-)
Can I send you a quick email?

I am currently working on iconsizer! It is an app that helps fellow developers get their icons/logos for all devices (android, ios, web) in seconds. I believe this can be a giant time saver for a lot of us. Because it does the tedious work of resizing the images for different devices! I am currently trying to get some users before launch and I really hope it helps people 😉👍

15 items in the Changelog! Still rolling.

I started a new newsletter talking about mobile development and release engineering. As makers of our products, we should own the full process from writing a line of code to releasing it to our users. Sign up and let me know what you think.

I finished building a Slack app! It streamlines the workflow of recording and uploading screen share/webcam videos to a Slack channel. It's up and running and can be installed at https://vidrec.org, but I haven't created a post to announce it yet.

This looks great @txn3735. Do you have any users yet? Getting any feedback from all that hard work?

      1. 2

Not yet but I am currently working with a friend to do a first real beta to build an app for his company.

Nice! I love your "app ideas" pages. That seems like a great way to get leads from people interested in starting a side project.

          1. 1

Thanks. At first, I was collecting ideas to build as a showcase or case studies but then I decided to create a blog page and post them on LinkedIn.

Before this, my site was literally a "ghost town". I mean 0 visitors. Now I am getting a steady number of visitors per day and it's increasing. It seems to work so far.

I hope my story helps someone else do the same.

Yea, that sort of content marketing is a great way to convey your vision to potential customers.

At RiteKit, we fixed bugs with Rite.ly, but the big thing is that we added two new endpoints to our Company Insights section of our API, and started Person Insights with Freemail Detection.

You can test our API solutions without registration or developer token. Just have at it in our Demo Dashboard.
