What I Learned From Reviewing 50+ Indie Hacker MVPs Last Week

Last week I reviewed over 50 MVPs from the IH community. I spent 5-10 minutes reviewing each MVP and created a personalized video for each one.

It was as much a learning experience for me as it was in helping to give feedback for these IH products.

I gave feedback based on each of these criteria:

  • First impressions
  • The problem being solved
  • Ideal customer
  • Product Market Fit
  • User Experience

So what is the recipe for a great MVP Landing Page?

Here are some of the key takeaways

1. Focus on Your Value Proposition

You only get one chance to make a first impression. Use your homepage / landing page wisely. This is especially true for the header section and the copy you include here. If you have a call to action, you need to use the copy to convey your value proposition as a product or service.

Help users understand immediately how your product is better than competitors.

Value Proposition

Abyssale does a great job of this by communicating a concise and coherent value proposition.

2. Communicate The Problem You Are Solving

Focus on the problem you are solving for your end user. Use your landing page copy to communicate how you are solving your ideal customer’s problem. Convey to the user the benefits of utilizing your product for solving this problem.

Communicating the problem

Validator app doubles down on the problem they are solving for their ideal customer and makes it explicit.

3. Make Your CTA as Clear as Possible

Usually, the Call To Action for your MVP will be one of three things:

  • Capture user interest by getting their email.
  • Prompt the user to schedule a consultation or call.
  • Get the user to make a purchase on your site.

Make this as simple as possible for your site visitors. Reduce friction by calling out one clear CTA that is aligned with your value proposition as mentioned above.

CTA

Stoic Text does a great job of this. After conveying their unique value proposition and social proof, their CTA is super clear.

After reviewing so many projects last week, I had to include some of my favourites. I think each of these projects does a great job at conveying value and communicates their unique value proposition very well.

Did you dive into any of the products themselves? Or was this exercise focused on the landing pages?

    1. 1

I did for some of them @andrewgassen.... but many of them were landing pages for the purpose of idea validation. I tried to advise on first impressions, the problem being solved, who their ideal customer would be, how to move towards product market fit and the overall user experience of using their product or service.
