I’m about 1.5 weeks away from launching AdaptiFit — an adaptive AI fitness app that generates personalized workouts, nutrition, and even integrates injury rehab directly into your routine.
Before launch, I’ve already rebuilt the app three times. Not because I enjoy starting over, but because I wanted AdaptiFit to feel like a serious product on day one.
Here’s the path it’s taken so far:
• Glide + Google Sheets → great for speed, but too basic to capture the adaptive logic.
• Adalo + Make → gave me structure and automation, but the performance and technical ceiling weren’t enough.
• Flutter + n8n + Firebase → where we landed. With help, this stack gives us the scalability and flexibility to deliver the full vision: AI coach chat, workouts that adapt automatically to injuries, a dynamic calendar, and integrated nutrition.
Most fitness apps ignore injuries — or at best, give you a separate “rehab plan.” AdaptiFit is different: if you’ve got a knee, back, or shoulder issue, the corrective work gets woven into your actual workout so you can keep training without skipping a beat.
I know the usual startup advice is “launch fast, fix later.” I’ve taken the opposite route — making sure the first version feels different from day one.

Most fitness apps give you a fixed routine. That works great — until life (or an injury) happens.
With AdaptiFit, I wanted to design AI logic that thinks like a coach:
It doesn’t just throw random corrective exercises on top of your plan.
It integrates injury-specific drills directly into your warm-up, main lifts, and cooldown.
If you’re injured, it avoids contraindicated movements and swaps them for safe substitutions automatically.
It makes sure every session still feels complete, not like a rehab checklist.
The goal isn’t to replace a coach, but to give anyone a smarter, safer default plan — one that keeps you progressing while also addressing what’s holding you back.

One of the decisions I’m wrestling with right now is how to launch AdaptiFit — my fitness app that builds personalized workouts, nutrition plans, and adapts training when you’re injured.
On one hand, I believe in the value. If an app helps you train smarter and recover stronger, it feels fair to charge (even something small like $7–10/month). Charging early also tests whether people actually want it enough to pay.
On the other hand, I know fitness apps often get abandoned after a couple of weeks. Part of me thinks keeping it free for the first stage could build trust, retention, and momentum. But then I risk attracting users who never would’ve paid anyway.
I don’t want AdaptiFit to just be another app that people try and drop. I want it to be something they actually stick with.
If you were in my shoes, how would you approach monetization at launch? Would you charge early to validate, or focus first on retention and community before flipping the switch?

I think most of us have been there: you download a fitness app, the first week feels exciting, but then a few weeks later… you’re not opening it anymore.
Why does that happen?
Some apps feel too generic — same workouts for everyone, no matter your level.
Sometimes life happens — schedules change, motivation dips, and the app doesn’t adjust with you.
And sometimes it’s injuries or pain — you tweak something, the plan doesn’t adapt, and suddenly you’re off track.
I’ve struggled with all of these myself, which is why I started building AdaptiFit — an app that actually adjusts to your body, your goals, and your setbacks. It adapts your workouts in real time, adds corrective or recovery exercises when needed, and syncs nutrition with your training.

Biggest drop-off for me is logging friction. Fitness apps can have great plans, but if the nutrition side asks for too much typing or perfect tracking, I stop opening it. The apps that stick make the “capture” moment almost instant, then let me clean it up later.
For AdaptiFit, I’d test the injury/adaptation flow with messy real inputs: skipped workout, half-logged meal, sore shoulder, no time today. If the app still gives a small next step instead of making the user feel behind, that’s probably the retention unlock.
Most fitness apps give you generic routines. AdaptiFit is different.
It builds custom training plans for beginners all the way to experienced athletes — but with one key difference: it automatically integrates injury corrective exercises directly into your workouts.
That means if you’ve got back pain, hip tightness, or foot issues, AdaptiFit doesn’t just tell you to skip training. It weaves the right rehab and mobility work into your plan so you can keep making progress safely.

Looks great! I'd be careful with the green, especially on your primary CTAs - it's not a very accessible colour. Try a colour contrast checker like WebAIM colour contrast checker to get foreground and background colours everyone can see (aim for WCAG AAA, but AA is good too). About 8% of men and 0.5% of women are colourblind and won't be able to read text on your buttons for instance.

That’s a great point, Silke — really appreciate you bringing this up. Accessibility is something I definitely want to get right. The green is core to the brand, but I’ll make sure CTAs and buttons have enough contrast to be readable for everyone (dark backgrounds, bold text, etc.). I’ll also check them with WebAIM like you suggested. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Thank you! And great question, Sonu! Right now AdaptiFit prioritizes corrective exercises based on the injury or pain point a user enters during onboarding. For example, if someone mentions knee pain, it’ll work in glute activation, hip mobility, and lower body stability work. The long-term goal is to make it even smarter by pulling from a wider database and adapting as users give feedback.

This is really smart, Nicholas. I like how you built correctives into the routine instead of just pausing everything when something hurts.

Quick question, did you build in toggles so the app shifts priorities when injury is severe vs mild? I'm curious how you balance pushing progress vs protecting joints.

Thanks Mike! Yes — personalization and retention are exactly what I’m aiming for. I designed it so that when injuries are mild, the app layers corrective work into the regular training flow. When things are more severe, it automatically shifts into a recovery-first mode with mobility, rehab, and modified progressions so users can still train without making things worse.
It’s all about keeping people moving safely instead of hitting pause every time something hurts.

I’ve followed dozens of “perfect” workout plans. They worked fine… until I got injured, missed a week, or life threw me off track. Suddenly, the plan was useless, and I was back at square one.
AdaptiFit is the app I wish I had: a training system that adapts in real-time. If you’re hurt, it shifts to recovery. If you’re busy, it adjusts your workload. It even builds in corrective exercises so you return stronger, not weaker.
I’ve dealt with recurring back, hip, and foot issues, and this is my way of solving the problem I couldn’t find an answer to anywhere else.
