July 7, 2026 Day 3 after launch: Building the product was easier than finding customers

ChunkChat is now live, and I've spent the last few days talking to business owners, founders, and agencies.

One thing has become very clear.

The challenge isn't whether the chatbot can answer questions.

The challenge is helping businesses understand exactly how it fits into their workflow and what problem it solves today.

When I started building, I focused heavily on retrieval quality, citations, crawling, PDF support, onboarding, billing, and all the technical pieces.

But after demos and conversations, I'm realizing that customers care much more about outcomes:

  • Can it reduce repetitive questions?

  • Can it help visitors find information faster?

  • Can it generate leads?

  • Can it save support time?

The product is already capable of doing those things, but communicating that value is a completely different challenge.

For founders who have already gone through this stage:

What helped you move from "interesting product" to "first paying customers"?

July 6, 2026 Day 2 after launching ChunkChat.

One thing I've learned already:

Building the product was easier than getting attention.

Over the past few weeks, I went from idea → POC → production and launched an AI chatbot platform that learns from websites, PDFs, FAQs, and documentation.

Yesterday was launch day.

Today I'm realizing that customer acquisition is an entirely different skill than software development.

Current status:

  • Product is live

  • First business demos completed

  • Website and widget deployed

  • Gathering feedback from potential customers

My focus now isn't on adding more features.

It's understanding:

  • Who gets value the fastest?

  • Which messaging resonates?

  • What problem are customers actually paying to solve?

For founders who have already crossed the first-customer stage:

What was the single most effective thing you did to get your first paying customer?

July 5, 2026 Just launched ChunkChat 🚀

A few weeks ago, I started building an AI chatbot platform that learns from websites, PDFs, FAQs, and documentation.

The goal was simple:

Help businesses answer customer questions using their existing content instead of making visitors search through pages and documents.

Current status:

✅ Website crawling

✅ PDF ingestion

✅ AI chat with citations

✅ Embeddable widget

✅ Multi-tenant SaaS

✅ Production deployment

This week, we started giving demos to real businesses and collecting feedback.

Now I'm focusing on the hardest part:

Finding the first active users.

For founders who have launched products before:

How did you get your first 10 users?

I like that you're grounding responses in a company's own content rather than trying to make the chatbot "know everything."

The interesting challenge is helping businesses see the product as a way to reduce the effort customers spend finding answers, not just another AI widget to add to their website.

That's exactly what I'm trying to focus on.

Most businesses already have the information their customers need. The challenge is that it's often spread across websites (webpages), PDFs, FAQs, and documentation, which makes it difficult to find quickly.

I'm learning that the bigger challenge isn't building the AI side—it's communicating the value in terms of customer experience and reducing friction rather than just calling it an AI chatbot.

      Appreciate the insight.

I think that's the more interesting problem too.

The way you describe it makes me think the positioning challenge isn't just about clearer messaging—it's about a business choice that will quietly shape how customers evaluate the product from their very first interaction.

I don't think I can unpack why I think that in a thread without skipping over the important parts.

If you're open to it, what's the best email to reach you on?

Absolutely, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts.

You can reach me through the Contact page on the ChunkChat website. I'm new on Indie Hackers, so I can't share my email address yet.

I'm still early in the journey with ChunkChat and actively learning about positioning, customer perception, and product-market fit, so I'd really appreciate your perspective.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks! I’ve just sent it over.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts whenever you have a chance.

About

After building websites for years, I noticed businesses repeatedly lose leads and answer the same questions despite having the information online. ChunkChat turns existing content into an AI assistant that works 24/7.
