    Congrats!

It's interesting that most of sales came from LTD. Now I think that before PH launch I should make LTD. Could you tell please, how did you define LTD's price value?

    1. 2

      Hi Victor,

      Thank you!

It depends on what is your goal with the LTD. Our goal was rewarding our beta users and getting more early users who will build real websites (More real use cases = More issues/feedback = An Improved product for the future).

We were offering a 50% lifetime discount already for our beta users (When we introduced LTD). So our early users would pay $18/year for Starter Plan or $30/year for Premium Plan. So we designed an LTD plan which is a mix of both plans (but closer to Starter Plan). Pricing started at $49 for the first 100 spots (Almost ~2 years of LTV upfront). We have increased the pricing after 100 spots and last spots were selling at $149 (Almost ~6 years of LTV upfront if we compare to our early 50% discounted price).

We have also made a rough calculation of how much resources users will use if all the LTD users use their plans in full capacity and every single website become very popular (Highly unlikely).

Feel free to contact me if you need any other information. :-)

Good job guys! Keep working. Upvoted

  3. 1

This is not FAIR. Why you are second? You have more VOTES and comments. I can see the maker of PH upvoted and removed his upvote for " circle " ..What is this mean? ๐Ÿ˜ก

    1. 2

I have no idea. ๐Ÿ˜ I heard that they count votes per minute or something. Which is low for us as we have launched almost 7 hours before Circle.

But I don't really mind. The feedback/comments we have received are really motivational for us. Also, the sales we have got so far. :)

      1. 1

        I'm happy for you guys.

I have an important question Mizan. I contacted you on twitter.

July 18, 2020 Another crazy day - $1,282 in sales

We have added the Lifetime Plan last week on Dorik and we have got $1,054 in sales in the first 24 hours. Yesterday we have done even better. We have sold 28 Lifetime Plans and 1 Subscription and got $1,282 in sales. Here are the full stats of the last 2 weeks.

Congratulations! Did you check the general advice on lifetime plans?

It always depends on the situation and not knowing your goals or your strategy here, but keeping a lifetime plan around too long might be bad for growth long term, once your lifetime customers exceed the annual plan, you will have an ever growing group of non paying and support requesting people.

Iโ€™m switching from lifetime to subscription for my product right now. Would love your thoughts on above!

    1. 2

      Hi Eduard,

      Thanks for your comment. :-)

We have planned around how many spots we can offer on lifetime plans. We decided to sell 200 lifetime plans (Max 250) and it will never come back again. So there will be a maximum of 200-250 users on lifetime plan.

Also, lifetime plan has limitation of 3 websites. So once users reach the limit, they have to buy a yearly subscription to add more sites.

Sent you a DM on Twitter. :-)

      1. 1

Thanks, got it! Makes sense this way.

Congratz, it's super inspiring! How do you manage the generation of the website?

    1. 1

      Thank you so much!

We have our own HTML/CSS/JS generators. :-)

  4. 1

I love your landing page <3

Good luck with sales! Don't be to affected by others hating on the lifetime plan, I think it's a very good move and it will get you some dedicated users that will provide great feedback over time, and which won't hesistate to buy from you again in the future.

    1. 1

      Thank you so much, Cristian.

I'm not affected by it. I'm always open to learning things. You are right about dedicated users. We have not promoted the lifetime deal anywhere. Only tweeted from our account and sent an email to already registered users (Which only 19% opened due to a mistake from me).

But so far almost all the sales we are getting from the early users promoting us in their network, groups and friends. Which is really motivating for us (Our early users did it even before the Lifetime Deal).

  5. 1

What's the point of selling life time plans? Everything is SAAS nowadays. It's pretty pointless to try to re-invent the wheel and fall back in the 90-es.

  6. 1

Congratulation! Pretty impressive achievements, long way to go ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Hi Mizan. Site looks great! I am curious... now that you are offering a lifetime plan, did you feel the need to create (or look-into) any sort of software escrow or source code escrow? I am trying to see if this is something that SaaS companies do these days. Thanks!

    1. 2

This might be only relevant for bigger B2B deals.

      1. 1

Possibly. If you offer a lifetime deal to people and then something unexpected happens, I was just trying to figure out how you could fulfill your end of the bargain (for a reasonable time) without placing an undue burden on your surviving partner, spouse, etc. (especially if you are a 1 person shop like me). A plan to open source it in that event sounds like a viable option to me. :-)

        1. 1

Well, lifetime doesnโ€™t mean the time your customers are alive, but for the lifetime of the software. If you need to discontinue, you give an early announcement and enough time to migrate to another solution.

          1. 1

Agreed, my friend, that's why I said "for a reasonable time". But we certainly do live in strange and perilous times. As a solo entrepreneur, I would not want to have a bunch of people purchase a 'lifetime' plan only to have them come after my spouse/estate when I unexpectedly died 3 months later due to COVID (or whatever) and they were upset because the servers were down. For me, anyway, it's just another type of business planning (like data backups, or insurance), which is why I asked. I'm genuinely curious about how others plan for that eventuality.

    2. 1

I'm not fully familiar with these, to be honest. I will look into it. :-)

We will open-source the project if we are unable to continue it (The chance is very low, as we have plans for at least the next 2 years). This is our position from the start. (Well before offering the lifetime plan)

      Thank you so much. :-)

      1. 1

Ah! It sounds like that would probably fulfill the need for people to be able to continue using it if something unforeseeable occurs. Good job!

  10. 1

Congrats.. How did you get your initial userbase?

  11. 1

Huge congrats!! I do have a sincere question - w/ extremely popular sites like webflow - why do you feel your userbase had chosen this one? Is it specialized in some way for a niche, is the price better? better UI? different feature set? etc.

    1. 1

is the price better? better UI? different feature set?

It's a mix of all. We tried to give user flexibility but keeping it easy to use. It was our primary goal. Early users are loving this approach so far. :-)

  12. 1

    Congrats! ๐ŸŽ‰
How much time did it take from the ground up to the first sale?

    1. 2

      Thank you!

Do you mean building the platform? Little over a year (we worked as a side project).

We launched the beta homepage in April. Started giving access to early users in May. Implemented payment method 2 weeks ago. :-)

  13. 1

Dorik looks awesome! Will sign up right now for the lifetime deal. Was looking for a platform that would allow me to replicate sites and export HTML.

What's the point of selling life time plans? Everything is SAAS nowadays. It's pretty pointless to try to re-invent the wheel and fall back in the 90-es.

    1. 1

I think that lifetime is a lot better for the customers. Customers are already starting to have SaaS fatigue, due to all the subscriptions piling up. It makes sense for actual services and for B2B, but for things that could be products from a customer-point of view lifetime is amazing. See Photoshop for example, many customers hate on the new "Creative Cloud" subscription model.

Problem with SaaS vs Product (lifetime) is that it also stops innovation. Customers are already just paying to use the same product, which can just be in maintainence mode and no new features added to it. With a product, you make it, people buy it and their only incentive to pay money to you again is if you release a much better product.

I am not saying SaaS is bad, just that in the end we should not try to force everything be a SaaS even if it could as well work as a one-time payment product. We are also customers, we should always think about them and providing high value, especially for the early adopters.

      1. 1

SaaS fatigue? I was never excited in about SaaS in the first place, lol.

The key is: don't fix what's not broken. If people are slowly succumbing to use SaaS, keep it that way. Don't send mixed messages. It will only hurt sales.

        Cheers!

        1. 1

By SaaS fatigue I mean that customers are getting overwhelmed by monthly payments and it's getting harder and harder to keep track of all of them. Imagine if you had to pay a monthly fee for each item in your house (phone, table, chairs, toaster, spoons, etc.). At some point you even throw some of them away or not use them anymore, but you realize you are still paying for them because you haven't cancelled the subscription. The idea is that monthly payments vs one-time payments add more cognitive overload over time and might become stressful.

The key is: don't fix what's not broken. If people are slowly succumbing to use SaaS, keep it that way.

It was not broken when only a few services started doing it, but now when everyone started doing it you get the problem I mentioned above. But, as I said before, for businesses it's better, for customers is worse.

    2. 1

So many points. One is rewarding the users who are testing the product for 2 months. Trusting us in our infancy.

Where is the re-invention of the wheel here? Making a SaaS product? Or selling the lifetime plan? ๐Ÿค”

      1. 0

lifetime plans are retro. I generally agree with the comment above about a guy mentioning that you need to limit them in order to remove brand dilution and future earnings.

        1. 1

I see. Probably you didn't see my reply. It's limited from the start. 200 is our plan (250 maximum). Also, sites are limited to 3. So if anyone needs more sites they have to move to subscription plans. We have very cautiously designed the plan so it doesn't become a burden on us.

One more benefit of this offer is right now we have 100+ users who are using the platform real use case (not just for testing). And we are receiving lots of helpful feedback/bug reports.
More users = More feedback = A better product for the future. We can change things very easily now because there are not many users/sites hosted yet. But changing things won't be easy in the future as we have to think about lots of things.

July 11, 2020 $1,054 in sales in 24 hours

We have implemented our payment method last week on Dorik and got 8 paid customers in the first week. But we have received some requests for a Lifetime Deal. We were thinking something like that for our early beta users. Our early users giving their valuable time to try and test our platform and giving us feedback. So we wanted to reward them.

Yesterday, We offered a Lifetime Deal for $49 (still active), and automated the process of giving early access so that new users can get access instantly. We are very close to public beta.

While I was preparing to send an email to our registered users about the deal, something dramatic happened on twitter.

Matt tweeted this:

Tweet Screenshot

From this tweet, @NoCodeJac found us and bought the Lifetime Plan and tweeted about Dorik. ๐Ÿ˜„

Tweet Screenshot

We started receiving lots of visitors from Twitter. Meantime, I have sent the email update to our registered users about our Lifetime Deal and boomโ€” Sales started coming from our existing users and also from newly registered users. We have got 23 customers in the last 24 hours and $1,054 in sales. Around ~40% of that came from the new users who found us on Twitter.

We are really thankful to the wonderful NoCode community here and on twitter. The support and feedback are amazing so far.

Possible Mistake: We switched to EmailOctopus from MailChimp. Our Lifetime Deal emails have been opened by only 12% of registered users so far. On MailChimp campaigns, it was over 40%

Hey Mizan, I recently moved from Mailchimp to EmailOctopus also. I saw a drop in opens like you did. I then verified my domain on EO, and the % jumped back up to MC levels. Have you happened to verify your email there yet? If not, here are the instructions (it's not setup by default): https://help.emailoctopus.com/article/160-verifying-a-new-domain

    1. 2

      Thanks, Peter.

I have verified the domain before sending the campaign. But the drop was huge. Got your tweet on twitter. Sending you a DM. :-)

As per comment below, dropped you a line on this one as a simple one to solve :)

          Thank you, Thomas

          Got your email and replied.

    2. 1

I switched from Mailchimp to EO recently. My open rate on the first campaign is 60%. I week later I sent one more campaign to those non-openers, and those people really don't open it. Not sure what is the problem.

But I was thinking of going back to Mailchimp again because EO doesn't have simple segmentation to send a follow up email campaign to non-openers.

    3. 1

Hey one reason you're getting lower email openings is your emails are going into Junk mail. I just signed up on your site and I had to look into my spam folder (provider is Outlook.com). Just an FYI. Great work BTW!

      1. 1

Thanks for the update, Fritz. I will look into it more. :-)

        1. 1

Yes exactly what @flarco said above. Some reason email octopus gets sent to spam folders. Its happened to me as well, I just switched back to MailChimp and problem solved.

          1. 1

That's not good and really sorry you had a poor experience. Do drop me an email if you ever want to consider switching again. The vast majority of issues related to getting into the inbox we can help solve!

          2. 1

            Thanks for the information, Paolo.

I will probably go back to MailChimp.

            1. 1

              Hi Mizan,
Have dropped you an email on this as I've taken a look at your last campaign and can see it's a simple one to solve!

  2. 2

    Congrats! Looks awesome.

I almost signed up for the lifetime myself. I'm not your perfect lifetime though as I won't be building anything for a couple of months.
Only thing that stopped me is that it'll be for a business and I'd want a menu icon stuck to the top that would allow you to jump to various parts of the page.

Is that a planned feature? If so I'll go back and buy it now.
    Cheers

    Hi Mizan!
I bought your life time offer and intend to use it soon. Your builder is beautiful and very impressive. Still checking things out, and also excited by your roadmap features, especially rtl and multipage.

Meanwhile I can offer feedback that the registration form didn't work for me on mobile. I got an error that the field is not valid, both on the upper and lower email fields. On laptop it worked fine with the same email address.

Also I didn't find a way to change the colors of a section style. I can change the background to a solid, gradient or photo, but this overrides the existing shapes, so I can't use the shapes and change their color. Is it possible? I feel like it's something that should be possible.

All in all, using your builder is a really fun and intuitive experience, and the effort you put in it really shows. I wish you lots of success!

    1. 1

      Thank you so much. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Did you use the same link on mobile and desktop? It's working for me. We are updating the login and sign up a page soon. We will check it again. :-)

Background shapes are currently used as an image. I understand the point. And we have already planned to add "Shapes" feature for the background. It will be similar to how our section corner shapes works.

If you need any help, please let me know. You can use the live chat on the website too. :-)

  12. 1

I see that the login form uses username and password, does that mean you aren't using off the shelf authentication provider and an authorization product to secure the site?

    1. 3

      Hi Warren,

      Thanks for your comment.

Currently, we are not using any provider for authentication. We have implemented the authentication following the oauth2 standard. In the future, we'll implement "login with google" and others.

      1. 2

OAuth 2.0 is a three-legged auth, if you only have the website and a backend, that probably just means you are securing the site, but doesn't mean you are using OAuth2.

Something else it would be worth pointing out, is that the website actually exposes whether a user already exists with that email address, and if the password is incorrect. Which greatly reduces the burden to logging in through the website. In general one of the reasons to an off the shelf solution, is that these prevent exposing that sort of information.

July 4, 2020 First Customer ๐ŸŽ‰

We have implemented the payment system last week for premium plans on Dorik. Today, we have applied the 50% lifetime discount on our beta users account. And we have got our first paid customer within a few hours. One of our beta users is now a paying customer.

We still didn't send the update to all our registered users about the 50% discount. We are gonna send the email on Monday.

And we are confident that more customers are coming. ๐Ÿฅณ

Update: We have got our 2nd customer already! ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰

When I first read your post I was thinking โ€˜yet another single page website builder.โ€™ But, I was compelled to check it out. Iโ€™m glad I did. So impressive. Congrats on the launch. Consider adding pages of your competition Dorik vs. Competitor 1, 2, etc. in your footer. Youโ€™ll shine above them!

And website looks great on mobile.

May 4, 2020 54 Subscribers for Early Access in 3 Weeks

Since launching our beta homepage 3 weeks ago. We have submitted Dorik on some websites for getting beta testers. But mostly, we have posted to get some feedback about our homepage and product.

After 3 weeks, We have got around ~500 visitors to our homepage. And 54 subscribers for early access.

Most of the visitors we got from IH (almost 80%). We are happy with the response we have got so far.

Hi @mizan, congrats for the achievement! I tried signing up for an early access but on my end, it shows the site can't be reached.
I'm looking forward to trying Dorik since I am looking for a better option aside from using Versoly and Webflow.
Versoly doesn't have the flexibility that I want and Webflow isn't intuitive enough. Maybe Dorik is the one that I've been looking for. Cheers! :)

      Thanks,
