Congratulation for the launch Peter. It's hard to see unique ideas these days, but your one is really unique and useful which is even more important. πŸ‘

Thank you! I know - I've noticed this as well. Many things repeat or are exactly the same. I don't think we gaining much from developing the same stuff over and over again. Let's try to build something new and move the needle forward.

    great stats! congratulations.

Thanks and also thank you for following the progress πŸ‘οΈ

Congratulations man. Wow I feel you about the anxiety thing. I hope you can relax now.

Yeah, it's much better now. I'm still happy to do it - gives you a very different experience than just coding and building stuff

Nice stats Peter! For me personally I use keychain and Safari. How would you sell me the app? Or are you targeting customers with Chrome only?

Thank you for your comment Scott. I know the project isn't for everyone - some people are using different ways to auth or no social logins at all. Most people simply remember 😁️ During research I've found out that only around 5% of the people are struggling with this issue - so 95% are out by default. Which is fine - 5% is still plenty of people to give it a try.

Safari isn't a target group (atm). It's simply because building extensions are a pain for Safari afaik.

Glad you done the research! Yeah I hear you for Safari... struggle to even find a functioning adblocker these days for it. Wish you luck with the project!

I guess it's intentionally. Apple likes to keep their ecosystem rather restricted. Google is going the opposite way mostly.

Research was mostly a one day long conversation on Twitter with a few hundred replies - not like I've done it super detailed.

April 18, 2019 ... 3, 2, 1, zero, *submit*

On 0:10 SF time it's time to release it. My stress is peaking when I click submit on the ProductHunt site. Like a rocket I'm totally on auto-pilot at this point. One by one I submit content to several sites while I update my own sites parallel.

First responses fly in. One retweet, cool. I switch back to posting updates. Fixing a link in my blog quickly. Thanks to the amazing Netlify services I just need to "git push" - what a time saver. Back on Twitter: four retweets - Yay. Off to ProductHunt: 6 upvotes, alrrrighhtt. Back to sending a few more tweets & messages. Back on Twitter I see some more mentions and responses. I handle them quickly before getting back to pushing more. This forward and backwards between responding and pushing more goes on for a few more hours.

A friend of mine becomes my first customers. Even it's a friend helping - I've sold one! I'm stoked πŸ€‘οΈ Excitement takes completely over as I'm reaching the third spot on ProductHunt and shortly after the second spot. Preparing and hand crafting content has paid off well. I continue responding and tweeting like a kid on a massive sugar rush. The second spot is where WhichLogin.com remains for a long time and I don't expect to catch up the 50+ upvotes I'm behind. I take a moment to breath and get my first meal of the day (around 5 pm).

Unbelievable, but the upvotes picked up more and more and Which Login takes over the first spot on ProductHunt 😍️ I'm mind-blown 🀯️ It can't believe it and take screenshots every few minutes because I expect to drop down to the second place any second. But this doesn't happen until far past midnight local time here in Bangkok. I'm exhausted and asleep at this time already. In the morning I've got a solid second place and am more than happy. This is where Which Login remains as the voting for the day closes. It's an incredible experience launching and promoting a product. I'm so grateful for all the great people supporting me with messages and retweets along the way.

April 10, 2019 Preparing launch day

Even after years as a software engineer, preparing a launch is always a lot of stress for me. When I'm preparing a launch for a client my worries are limited to my actual work. When it's my own project I worry about everything. I'm stressing about wording, brand colors, images, grammar and typos, typos everywhere.

While most responses are generally positive, somehow I still expect people to respond negative. I can't explain why. So I prepare texts for the different platforms, images and tweets. All hand crafted and revisited too many times.

It all goes on for a few days until I feel like I can't put it off anymore. I just need to get it out and launch it. It's like a pressure building up.

April 1, 2019 Learning from others

I used the chance to reach out to a number people who developed extensions before me. Why not learning from the people who traveled the seas before me? From the chats I've learned a lot, especially that I might have problems running my extension on Chrome.

But thankfully to Mozilla's great work I was able to port the extension in only one night. Yay, thank you for great work you have done make browsers more compatible and allowing me to sleep instead of worrying.

March 2019 All night coding session to get a MVP done

Once I got the idea in my mind it didn't leave me anymore. I decided to do it and started coding. Mozilla provides with great starting points for modern web-extensions on GitHub. I've worked and tweaked them in an all night session until a very rough MVP was done.

Comment

March 20, 2019 From rough MVP to v2 and v3

The initial approach wasn't satisfying enough. It worked well for some sites but didn't catch enough cases. Who would have thought there are dozens of different ways to implement single-sign-on into a website? A better approach had to be found.

In a chat with @tompec we discussed a better algorithm and started coding v2 and v3. Squeezed between regular client work I had short nights until I had a version that worked on most websites.

March 19, 2019 Inspired by a tweet

I stumbled across a tweet by @jivings sharing his frustration with social logins. You use them to sign up for a site and forget which one you used after a while. When you later get signed out automatically you find yourself creating accounts by accident. This happened to me so often. I decided to build a solution for it finally.

Did you ever come back to a website, have been signed out and couldn't remember how you signed in? Was it Facebook? Twitter? Or Google? This happened many times to me and so I decided to solve the issue.
