What results did you form websites like Product Hunt, Betalist, etc.?

Hey!

A few days ago I submitted my SaaS Notimate.co to BetaList.com and a few other websites. I also think about Product Hunt after the official launch and I thought it might be interesting for our community to share our experiences and results from websites like this.

If you have any data (numbers of visits, sign-ups, customers) and comparison with other traffic sources (SEO, PPC) - it will be awesome! 😁

Did it really help you get the first customers?

Have you used premium options? Do you recommend it?

Here's my BetaList results (in short, 290 site users, 57 free sign ups to the site in the week that followed) - it was good for getting some beta testers.

I'll be posting PH results in the coming days

    I wrote a post–mortem about it: https://www.indiehackers.com/product/songrender/product-hunt-post-mortem-330-uniques-15-signups--LzgjKO59aAEK1SsIIiH

TL;DR I lingered just below the fold. It went fine but not fantastically, but my target audience doesn't significantly overlap with Product Hunters so I wasn't expecting a ton.

Product Hunt was huge for Early User Growth (granted I used a side project of Early User Growth to promote as the main product isn't something that's allowed to post through Product Hunt.)

Here's what it looked like with the number of visitors/pageviews:

And here's what it looked like with the number of new sign-ups:

It helped me to grow the userbase for Early User Growth by 900% (150 pre-PH, 1500+ post-PH)

It also helped me to go viral on Twitter in Saudi Arabia and Japan; got me covered by several media publications; got featured in a few dozen newsletters; and people made videos about it.

PH also ended up tweeting about the page for months afterwards, which helped get 100s of visitors everytime they tweeted about it.

Haven't used any premium options so not the right person to answer that question.

Hey, I apologize, a little off-topic here, but how did you add images to your comment?

For what I'm working on now, Betalist led to 260 website visitors, and 63 of them pre-registered. It had the highest conversion rate of any referrer and was our biggest source of traffic in December/January (we were featured at the end of December).

My prior startup launched on Product Hunt and got about 350 signups from it - don't have access to hard figures on traffic etc. anymore.

I think that the most valuable thing you may get from the launch on ProductHunt is feedback to understand the direction of the next iterations. Given your product matches the main audience of course and you make a presentation clear to grasp.

As with any launch or post, such websites don't turn into a recurrent acquisition channel so you can't get much more value than that.

There are exceptions if you have a very strong match (your product is for developers or marketers and proved to receive big traction on the launch day). Then I think you could try their promotion package.

Also got a blog post coming out about results of 3 PH launches

If I recall correctly, StatusGator got about zero sign ups from ProductHunt.

I think people put too much weight on these kinds of “big splash” launches when they should be launching constantly and iterating. But maybe I am just jaded by my lack of success with them. I’m curious if others find them beneficial.
