January 16, 2025 Building momentum

As of January 16th, 2025, InstaRent has grown to 34 paying users—a small but promising start. To encourage sign-ups and get more people using the full product, I’ve kept the price low. This strategy has helped me gather valuable customer feedback, though it’s also led to a backlog of ideas and requests that’s bigger than the time I have to work on them. But that’s a good problem to have—it means there’s always room for improvement.

To give InstaRent the attention it deserves, I’ve decided to work one day less each week at my job, dedicating that time to refining the platform. While I’m not profitable yet due to advertising costs outweighing revenue, I see a clear path forward.

First, I’ll focus on organic traffic. By optimizing the website for SEO, I can reduce dependency on ads and attract users more sustainably. Second, I plan to start email marketing to the list of 500 users I’ve already generated. By nurturing this audience, I can drive more sign-ups and conversions.

Additionally, as the first few months of subscriptions begin to renew, I’ll see a steady stream of recurring revenue, which will help stabilize growth.

It’s not an easy journey, but every small step—every new user, every bit of feedback—reinforces that InstaRent is heading in the right direction. With consistent effort and a focus on delivering value, I’m confident the platform will continue to grow.

December 2024 The First Paying User: A Milestone Moment for InstaRent

On December 3, 2024, InstaRent hit a major milestone: the first paying user. After weeks of refining the landing page, running Google Ads, and offering a free trial, someone finally saw enough value in the product to subscribe.

That first payment wasn’t just about the revenue—it was validation. It proved that the idea I had while struggling to find a rental home resonated with others. Someone believed InstaRent could give them the edge they needed in a competitive rental market, and that belief felt incredibly rewarding.

It wasn’t smooth sailing before this point—there were adjustments to the ads, improvements to the user experience, and moments of doubt. But that first paying user reaffirmed my confidence in the product and motivated me to keep going.

This was just the beginning. With every improvement and every new subscriber, I felt closer to building a platform that could truly make a difference for renters.

November 2024 Launch Day: Quiet Beginnings with Big Ambitions

When I officially launched InstaRent on Vercel, the day itself wasn’t anything special. No big announcement, no celebratory posts, no immediate wave of users signing up. It was just another quiet step in the process.

I knew from the beginning that InstaRent’s success wouldn’t depend on a flashy launch but on sustained effort and strategic marketing. With my background in online marketing, I was confident I could grow the platform using tools like Google Ads. I understood the power of targeted advertising and how to get in front of the right audience—people actively searching for rental properties.

So instead of focusing on launch day hype, I focused on what came next: refining the platform, preparing ad campaigns, and ensuring the experience was as smooth as possible for new users.

In hindsight, launch day wasn’t the end of the journey—it was just the start of making InstaRent a tool that renters could rely on. And for me, it was a reminder that success doesn’t come overnight. It’s built with persistence, strategy, and a clear vision.

November 30, 2024 From Launch to First Users: The Start of InstaRent’s Growth

After launching InstaRent quietly, I began advertising on Google Ads on November 21, 2024. While I didn’t get any users in November, I remained confident that with the right tweaks, InstaRent could succeed. I focused on improving the landing page and decided to add a free trial to lower the barrier for new users.

By the end of the first month, InstaRent had 75 users—a small but encouraging milestone. However, there were no sales yet. Despite that, I wasn’t discouraged. I saw it as a chance to learn from the early data and refine the product further.

The early days of any project are about testing, learning, and adjusting. I believed in the idea and trusted that with a better user experience and strategic marketing, InstaRent could become the go-to tool for renters in the Netherlands. The journey was just beginning, and every small step brought me closer to the bigger vision.

August 1, 2024 How I Built InstaRent: From Frustrated Renter to Founder

The idea for InstaRent came to me during one of the most frustrating experiences of my life—trying to find a rental property in the Netherlands. With so many seekers and so few available homes, I realized the key to securing a place was being the first to react to new listings. I thought, “Why not automate this?”

I started by hiring a developer to build a web scraper that could gather rental listings in real time. But that was just the beginning. I wanted to create a tool that was easy to use, with notifications and personalized matches, but I had zero coding experience.

To bring my vision to life, I bought a Next.js boilerplate to set up the project framework and began learning Next.js from scratch. Supabase became my go-to backend solution—it’s user-friendly and incredibly powerful for someone without a coding background.

A lot of my progress came from leaning on AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude. Whenever I hit a roadblock, I’d ask for help and learn as I coded. Slowly but surely, I built InstaRent while figuring it all out along the way.

Today, InstaRent is helping people like me find rental homes faster and with less stress. It's proof that even without a technical background, determination and the right tools can turn a problem into a solution.
