April 3, 2026 A lot of product progress doesn't look like progress from the outside

The last three months have been intense.

We've been doing a lot of foundational work behind the scenes at NameRobot, and now it's starting to show. One of the biggest changes: the old NameRobot Toolbox is coming back to life as the Naming Toolbox.

Under the hood, we updated the core system, improved stability, modernized parts like the Social Check, and set up the platform so we can move much faster from here.

For me, this is more than just a technical update. It feels like the toolbox is waking up again.

What used to be a collection of naming tools is gradually turning into a more connected platform for business naming, where idea generation, evaluation, and validation work together much more cleanly.

We already took a first big step with NameScore.

Now the Naming Toolbox is the next one.

A lot of this work is invisible from the outside. But if you build software for the long term, you know these phases matter. Sometimes the real progress is rebuilding the engine before you hit the gas.

Our support volume is slowly picking up again

What encourages me even more is that we're starting to see the first effects in actual usage.

  • Registrations on NameScore have grown to multiple new signups per day.

  • We're receiving support requests again, which tells me that both NameScore and the Naming Toolbox are being actively used again.

  • We're also seeing larger check packages being ordered through NameScore.

For me, that's the clearest signal that the changes are moving us in the right direction. NameRobot is gaining momentum again, and it shows that we're on a good path to push the platform forward.

October 26, 2025 Reviving NameScore - a 3-week sprint inside NameRobot

Earlier this year, we started reviving several of our products under the NameRobot brand. One of them is NameScore, a standalone service for evaluating brand and business names.

Your name idea deserves real insights. Check it with NameScore.

It had been quiet for months, so we decided to give it a focused 3-week improvement sprint.

We redesigned the website, rebuilt the signup funnel, and improved the dashboard copy using lessons from Hook (by Nir Eyal). No new features, no ads - just better structure, wording, and flow.

The result: from 2 signups per week to 10 per day.
A good reminder that small, focused updates can have a huge impact.

April 8, 2025 We’re Refactoring NameRobot – Killing Features & Adding Focus 🚀

Over the last weeks, we’ve been radically cleaning up NameRobot – saying goodbye to old features that didn’t fit anymore, and creating space for better tools.

  • 🧹 We shut down FlyingNames, our name consulting agency

  • 🧠 We’re doubling down on self-service naming tools

  • 🆕 We promote Trademarkly – a free, lightning-fast trademark checker

  • 🛠️ More modern, focused naming tools are in the works

It’s part of a bigger plan: Making NameRobot leaner, clearer, and more useful for solo founders and small teams.

We’ve shared the full update here.

Have you ever sunset a major feature to refocus your product?
Would love to hear how you handled the transition – especially from paying services to free tools.

March 10, 2025 NameRobot - A new start with lots of potential

A lot happened at NameRobot at the end of last year. Two of our founders sold the majority of their shares, and my long-standing business partner and I were faced with an important decision: should we take over NameRobot completely?

We have been self-employed together for around 20 years, so we gave it careful consideration. NameRobot is an exciting project with great potential, but the infrastructure is enormous. The administrative effort is high and the numerous components require a lot of maintenance. Despite these challenges, we ultimately decided to take over the company completely and take it to a new level.

The handover went smoothly and all the founders parted on good terms - a deal that felt right. But before things could really get going, the formal hurdles had to be overcome: Notary appointments, bank matters and lots of paperwork. This process took a whole five months, but last week we finally got the final go-ahead from the notary!

Taking stock - where does NameRobot stand today?

With the official closing, it was the perfect time for me to get a detailed overview:

  • What services are there?

  • How old are they?

  • What do the funnels look like?

  • What is the technical state of everything?

  • What dependencies exist?

At the weekend, I started analyzing the entire infrastructure and taking it apart piece by piece. I created an organizational issue for each individual service. The figures speak for themselves: we currently manage 23 domains (including subdomains) and 10 different services.

The way forward

NameRobot has great potential, but there is also a lot to do! Many of the existing services are more than ten years old - so we need to modernize them extensively. I will document the entire process and share the progress publicly.

I'm looking forward to leading NameRobot into a new era! 🚀
