Mini Podcast Tour

I felt it was the right time to focus on promoting Pod Hunt instead of continuing to add more features at top speed.

After some thought I decided the best way to promote Pod Hunt would be on podcasts, shocking I know!

Anyone listening to podcasts is a potential user, anyone hosting podcasts is a potential user (and supporter). Even if I didn't make an appearance on a podcast, just reaching out and talking to more podcast hosts would have been advantageous.

I started by putting out a simple tweet (https://twitter.com/mubashariqbal/status/1174461817072103426) saying I was looking to be a guest on podcasts. I'm fortunate enough to have a number of podcast hosts in my Twitter followers, and a few reached out to arrange an appearance.

I took advantage of the recently created Podcasts group on Indie Hackers and followed up with a post there (https://www.indiehackers.com/post/let-me-be-your-guest-8fe09d1fe7), making the same offer. Finally I jumped at the chance to appear on the Indie Hackers podcast once again, have been on originally 2 years ago. Courtland made a post asking if anyone was free for an interview one weekend, and I offered to be a guest to talk about my progress with Pod Hunt.

I've scheduled 9 podcast appearances now, I've recorded 4 already and 2 have been published.

Early indications are that this will be a very affective way to promote Pod Hunt in the short term.

As well as the direct traffic of the podcast appearance I am hoping that the links from the podcast show notes will help with the SEO ranking for Pod Hunt. Long term I feel that will be best source of traffic for Pod Hunt, but as with all good things, that takes time!

Update on all the stats I've been tracking:

I'd love to go on podcasts too! How do you approach them, or did all come through from those tweets?

Are they podcasts you listen to? Or entirely different ones?

    1. 1

I do listen to a lot of podcasts, but the majority I had no direction connection with the hosts before sending my tweet and posting here on Indie hackers.

I've purposely held off reaching out to the really big podcasts that I listen too regularly and may have a connection with (other than Indie hackers which just aligned itself magically) until things are a little bit more stable at Pod Hunt.

I think being clear what you'd like to talk about is helpful, and providing a way for people to find out more about you is important.

I think it was a little easier for me, I didn't really have to think about the audience of the podcast before reaching out, as I mentioned any podcast is a good one for me :)

Early next year I think I will be more proactive in actually reaching out to podcasts and offer myself as a guest, but this outreach has been productive enough for now!

Haven't been a user for long but: https://podcastguests.com looks like a good way to get more targeted appearances.
